A new simple and cheap method to grow large scale SiC-SiO2 nanocables on catalyzed Si substrate directly is presented. The method is based on the thermal decomposition of methanol. The grown nanocables consisted of crystalline 3C-SiC and amorphous SiO2. A simple etching and oxidation process was used to analyze the contribution of SiC and SiO2 components to photoluminescence.

We demonstrate a silicon carbide (SiC) microdisk resonator with an intrinsic optical quality factor of 6.19×10(3), fabricated on the 3C-SiC-on-Si platform. We characterize the temperature dependence of the cavity resonance and obtain a thermo-optic coefficient of 2.92×10(-5)/K for 3C-SiC. Our simulations show that the device exhibits great potential for cavity optomechanical applications.

A novel noble metal-free catalyst, with nitrogen-doped amorphous carbon and titanium nitride particles supported on SiC (NC-TiN/SiC), was synthesized. The NC-TiN/SiC catalyst exhibited excellent oxygen reduction reaction activities as well as superior stability and methanol tolerance. The catalytic activities were attributed to the synergistic effect of TiN and NC.

A new SiC nanoparticles (SiC NPs)-based chemiluminescence (CL) probe for selective and sensitive detecting of ˙OH has been developed. The radiative recombination of ˙OH-injected holes and electrons in the SiC NPs accounts for the CL phenomenon. Furthermore, the as-developed CL probe has been successfully applied to detect ˙OH in PM2.5.
