The development of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) is highly dependent on temperature due to vernalization requirements, which often causes delay and unevenness in maturity during months with warm temperatures. Integrating quantitative genetic analyses with phenology modeling was suggested to accelerate breeding strategies toward wide-adaptation cauliflower. The present study aims...

Higher plants share with animals a responsiveness to the Ca(2+) mobilizing agents inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (InsP(3)) and cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR). In this study, by using a vesicular (45)Ca(2+) flux assay, we demonstrate that microsomal vesicles from red beet and cauliflower also respond to nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAADP), a Ca(2+)-releasing molecule recently describe...

Compact, medium size, white to creamy cauliflower curds were packed into different packaging techniques like i. without (control); ii. in low density polyethylene (LDPE) bag with 1% perforation; iii. wrapped (PE) cling film and iv. newspaper (locally used). Half of each treatment was kept at (6±1°C 50±5% RH) the other half ambient conditions (25±3°C 60±5% RH). LDPE or PE has a great effect reta...

The oxidation of malate, citrate, and alpha-ketoglutarate by cauliflower (Brassica oleacea L.) bud mitochondria was inhibited by rotenone. This inhibition was relieved upon addition of NAD(+) to the medium, and ADP/O values were lowered to less than 2 when both rotenone and NAD(+) were present. Dinitrophenol did not affect the relief of rotenone inhibition by exogenous NAD(+).
