Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is one of the most prevalent vaginal infectious diseases, and there are controversial reports regarding the diversity of the associated vaginal microbiota. We determined the vaginal microbial community in patients with VVC, bacterial vaginosis (BV), and mixed infection of VVC and BV using Illumina sequencing of 16S rRNA tags. Our results revealed for the first tim...

Background We previously conducted an anonymous survey on universal screening for uterine cervical cancer (UCC), genital Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), and bacterial vaginosis (BV) among pregnant women in Hokkaido (Japan) in 2004, and the screening rates were 87.5% (49/56), 87.5% (40/56), and 57.1% (32/56), respectively. According to the Japanese guidelines for obstetric practice published in 2008...

BACKGROUND Intravaginal practices (IVP) (cleansing or introducing products inside the vagina for hygiene, health or to please sexual partners) are common among women with HIV. IVP increase the risk of developing bacterial Vaginosis (BV), the most common genital infection associated with transmission of sexually transmitted infections and HIV. This study tested a pilot intervention to reduce IVP...

Brentuximab vedotin (BV) is an antibody-drug conjugate that specifically delivers the potent cytotoxic drug monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE) to CD30-positive cells. BV is FDA approved for treatment of relapsed/refractory Hodgkin lymphoma and anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL); however, many patients do not achieve complete remission and develop BV-resistant disease. We selected for BV-resistan...

Recent progress in cell biology has provided new insight into the claudin (CL) family of integral membrane proteins, which contains more than 20 members, as a target for pharmaceutical therapy. Few ligands for CL have been identified because it is difficult to prepare CL in an intact form. In the present study, we developed a method to screen for CL binders by using the budded baculovirus (BV) ...

BACKGROUND We aimed to determine the prevalence of vaginal colonization by Gardnerella vaginalis and of bacterial vaginosis (BV) in Portuguese pregnant women, and to identify risk factors for BV and G. vaginalis colonization in pregnancy. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted among pregnant women aged ≥ 18 years who were attending in two public hospitals of the Northwest region of Por...

BACKGROUND Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common condition, although its aetiology remains unexplained. The aim of this study was to analyse the composition of vaginal microbiota in women from Greenland to provide a quantitative description and improve the understanding of BV. METHODS Self-collected vaginal smears and swabs were obtained from 177 women. The vaginal smears were graded for BV ac...

We study the conditions that an operator, defined on the spaces of degree 0 and 1 of a Gerstenhaber or BV algebra, has to satisfy so that we can find an extension that generates the whole algebra. When applied to the Gerstenhaber or BV algebra associated to a Lie algebroid, it gives a global proof of the correspondence between BV-generators and flat connections.
