A 65-year-old female patient who had been operated 20 years ago for parathyroid adenoma presented with left arm mass suspicious for metastatic lesion. First she was referred for bone scintigraphy for evaluation of osteoblastic activity of this lesion and examining other possible lesions at the skeleton. 99mTcMDP whole-body bone scan revealed multiple increased tracer uptake at the skeletal syst...
To better understand asthma pathogenesis, we characterized airway responsiveness, lung inflammation, and mediator production of alveolar macrophages (AM) after allergen sensitization and challenge in two strains of rats showing different susceptibilities in developing airway allergic reactions. Airway responsiveness to acethylcholine was measured 24 h after ovalbumin (OVA) challenge, whereas br...
there are various parameters that affect stability and expansion of failure zones in under pressure tunnels. among the important parameters that affect failure zones around the tunnels are cohesion and internal friction angle of the rock mass. in addition, the cross sectional shape is the considerable point in failure distribution around the tunnels. the stress analysis method is one of the app...
Hyperparathyroidism (HPT) is an endocrine disorder characterized by high secretion of parathyroid hormone. Brown tumor one the skeletal manifestations HPT. Its overall prevalence low (about 0.1%). Involvement facial bones extremely rare. The mandible involved in 4.5% cases. Primary HPT (PHPT)with vitamin D deficiency worsens clinical course. Parathyroid adenoma detected ectopic places with a ra...
We evaluated the significance of the host kallikrein-kinin system in tumor angiogenesis and tumor growth using two rodent models genetically deficient in a kallikrein-kinin system. Inoculation of Walker 256 carcinoma cells into the s.c. tissues of the back of normal Brown Norway Kitasato rats (BN-Ki rats) resulted in the rapid development of solid tumors with marked angiogenesis. By contrast, i...
Two cultures of acid-fast bacilli with characteristics most closely resembling those of Mycobacterium fortuitum were recovered as casual isolates from sputa of a patient with an apparent brochogenic tumor. One of the cultures was consistenly cream colored to rosy buff. The other, however, changed from buff to rust to dark brown and had the gross appearance of a fungus culture.
A 49-year-old male with known history of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) presents with an intraoral exophytic mass of the right mandible. This lesion was given a histologic diagnosis of a Brown tumor. Purpose. To allow physicians to include this lesion in a differential diagnosis when evaluating patients with primary, secondary, or tertiary hyperparathyroidism.
in the 2D-TSI slice for a patient with a glioblastoma tumor; bottom: the corresponding nosologic images. Colors: dark blue = gray matter; light blue = white matter; green = CSF; yellow = tumor; brown = necrosis+tumor (mixed tissue); gray-blue = normal+axonal damage; white = normal tissue on MRI, but tumor or necrosis on MRSI. Osteochondroma is a rare condition in the spine that may be indolent due to its slow growth. The authors present a case of 32-year-old man with subclinical osteochondroma in the cervical spine presenting as Brown-Sequard syndrome after trivial neck trauma. After resection of the tumor through hemilaminectomy, his symptoms were improved with mild residual sequelae.
