Specific-purpose microfluidic devices have had considerable impact on the biological and chemical sciences, yet their use has largely remained limited to specialized laboratories. Here we present a general-purpose software-programmable microfluidic device which is capable of performing a multitude of lowand high-level functions without requiring any hardware modifications. To demonstrate the ap...

The Ten-eleven translocation (TET) family of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) dioxygenases catalyze the conversion of 5mC into 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) and further oxidized species to promote active DNA demethylation. Here we engineered a split-TET2 enzyme to enable temporal control of 5mC oxidation and subsequent remodeling of epigenetic states in mammalian cells. We further demonstrate the use of...

DBE2 is an information system for the management of biological experiment data from different data domains in a unified and simple way. It provides persistent data storage, worldwide accessibility of the data and the opportunity to load, save, modify, and annotate the data. It is seamlessly integrated in the VANTED system as an add-on, thereby extending the VANTED platform towards data manageme...

The concept of accessibility needs to take into account factors like individual needs, preferences, and abilities as well as transportation, land use, and finances. This article proposes a sensitive space–time accessibility indicator from a regional perspective. This indicator, representing cumulative available activity time with a regional context, is different from both traditional accessibil...

This paper is composed of a survey on wearable computers and a research agenda to further pursue topics in the communication area. We begin with a brief walk-through of the terminology and examples, followed by motivation originated from two historical trends – enhancing human biological ability and increasing resource accessibility. Then, we investigate the existing technologies and relevant r...

During the past 25 years, advances in reproductive medicine have led to the development of novel techniques that give cancer patients who are facing impending sterility an opportunity to bear biological offspring. However, the availability and expense of some fertility preservation methods have limited their universality and, therefore, patient access. By contrast, ovarian transposition prior t...

We show how different kinds of belief operators derived from preferences can be defined in terms an accessibility relation of epistemic priority, and characterized by means of a vector of nested accessibility relations. The semantic structure enable us to compare and reconcile certain non-standard notions of belief that have recently been used in epistemic analyses of games.
