PURPOSE To establish a new mouse model for wound healing studies on hemophilia A. METHODS Total 54 male mice with different genotypes including wild-type nude mice, heterozygous mice (FVIII-/-/Nu) and FVIII deficient mice (FVIII-/-) were generated and verified by PCR. Mice were subjected to wound healing research by making a 5 mm-thickness wound on mice skin and applying recombinant human epi...

The 3'-nucleotidase/nuclease (3'-NT/NU) is a surface enzyme unique to trypanosomatid parasites. These organisms lack the pathway for de novo purine biosynthesis and thus are entirely dependent upon their hosts to supply this nutrient for their survival, growth, and multiplication. The 3'-NT/NU is involved in the salvage of preformed purines via the hydrolysis of either 3'-nucleotides or nucleic...

We call a nonempty subset A of a topological space X finitely non-Urysohn if for every nonempty finite subset F of A and every family {Ux : x ∈ F} of open neighborhoods Ux of x ∈ F , ∩{cl(Ux) : x ∈ F} 6 = ∅ and we define the non-Urysohn number of X as follows: nu(X) := 1 + sup{|A| : A is a finitely non-Urysohn subset of X}. Then for any topological space X and any subset A of X we prove the fol...

We consider the d=1 nonlinear Fokker-Planck-like equation with fractional derivatives ( partial differential/ partial differentialt)P(x,t)=D( partial differential(gamma)/ partial differentialx(gamma))[P(x,t)](nu). Exact time-dependent solutions are found for nu=(2-gamma)/(1+gamma)(-infinity<gamma</=2). By considering the long-distance asymptotic behavior of these solutions, a connection is esta...

We examine the behavior of a model which describes the melting of double-stranded DNA chains. The model, with displacement-dependent stiffness constants and a Morse on-site potential, is analyzed numerically; depending on the stiffness parameter, it is shown to have either (i) a second-order transition with nu( perpendicular) = -beta = 1,nu(||) = gamma/2 = 2 (characteristic of short-range attra...

Solar, atmospheric, and LSND neutrino oscillation results require a light sterile neutrino, nu(B), which can exist in the bulk of extra dimensions. Solar nu(e), confined to the brane, can oscillate in the vacuum to the zero mode of nu(B) and via successive Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein transitions to Kaluza-Klein states of nu(B). This new way to fit solar data is provided by both low and interme...

Controllable point junctions between different quantum Hall phases are a necessary building block for the development of mesoscopic circuits based on fractionally charged quasiparticles. We demonstrate how particle-hole duality can be exploited to realize such point-contact junctions. We show an implementation for the case of two quantum Hall liquids at filling factors nu=1 and nu*<or=1 in whic...

We present measurements of the inclusive branching fractions for the decays D+-->Xe+ nu(e) and D0-->Xe+ nu(e), using 281 pb(-1) of data collected on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector. We find B(D0-->Xe+ nu(e)) = (6.46+/-0.17+/-0.13)% and B(D+-->Xe+ nu(e)) = (16.13+/-0.20+/-0.33)%. Using the known D meson lifetimes, we obtain the ratio Gamma(D+)sl/Gamma(D0)sl = 0.985+/-0.028+/-0.0...
