The bacterial strain Bacillus cereus is closely related to Bacillus thuringiensis, although any genetic relationship between the two strains is still in debate. Using rep-PCR genomic fingerprinting, we established the genetic relationships between Brazilian sympatric populations of B. cereus and B. thuringiensis simultaneously collected from two geographically separate sites. We observed the fo...

Bacillus sp. strain RP1137 is a bacterium that is able to rapidly and efficiently aggregate biofuel-producing microalgae. By 16S rRNA gene sequencing, it was found to be related to the industrially important Bacillus megaterium. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Bacillus sp. strain RP1137.

The complete genome sequence of Bacillus subtilis T30 was determined by SMRT sequencing. The entire genome contains 4,138 predicted genes. The genome carries one intact prophage sequence (37.4 kb) similar to Bacillus phage SPBc2 and one incomplete prophage genome of 39.9 kb similar to Bacillus phage phi105.

Bacillus megaterium have been advocated as effective and economical bio inoculant to use in the integrated nutrient and pest control system. Bacillus megaterium from soil of different Agro climatic zones of Karnataka were isolated and identified. Molecular characterization of the Bacillus megaterium isolates was done using RAPD technique. The study of effect of Bacillus megaterium on seed germi...

Injection of a Japanese cedar pollen suspension into silkworm hemolymph kills the silkworms. A certain species of bacteria proliferated in the hemolymph of the dead silkworms. A 16S rDNA analysis demonstrated that the proliferating bacteria were Bacillus cereus, Bacillus thuringiensis, Bacillus weihenstephanensis, and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Among them, B. cereus, B. thuringiensis, and B. w...

Three bacterial isolates from the activated sludge of a distillery wastewater treatment plant identified as Xanthomonas fragariae, Bacillus megaterium and Bacillus cereus were found to remove COD and colour from anaerobically digested distillery wastewater in the range of 55 to 68% and 38 to 58% respectively.

Polyhydroxybutyrate producing bacteria from garden soil were isolated and characterized for their morphological, biochemical properties. Based on their 16S rRNA gene sequences, they were identified as Bacillus mycoides DFC1, Bacillus cereus DC1, Bacillus cereus DC2, Bacillus cereus DC3 and Bacillus cereus DC4. The bacteria were screened for PHB production and compared for the intensity of fluor...

A substantial number of Bacillus species have been marketed for use in oral bacteriotherapy because of their purported ability to prevent or treat various gastrointestinal disorders. Recently, some of the Bacillus strains in Enterogermina, which is made up of aqueous suspensions of viable Bacillus spores, have been partially characterized and aligned with members of the Bacillus alcalophilus su...
