Introduction: Coronary bifurcation lesions are considered one of the challenging entities in field coronary intervention due to risk side branch loss and higher stent thrombosis. However, there is limited data about proper management such setting myocardial infarction as most lesion studies excluded patients with acute syndromes (ACS). The aim this study was compare in-hospital mid-term outcome...

We report our experience in coronary angioplasty and intravascular ultrasonography (IVUS) on a heavy, encircling, calcified lesion that was not dilated with the use of a cutting balloon and a non-compliant balloon. The angioplasty was successfully performed with a simple and inexpensive hugging balloon technique.

22 The current issue of REVISTA ESPAÑOLA DE CARDIOLOGÍA includes an article by De la Torre et al1 that describes a retrospective study of 75 consecutive patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), with and without ST segment elevation, who underwent coronary angiography and angioplasty. These patients (Group A) hade the peculiarity that, other than the treated culprit lesion, theyhad at least ...

BACKGROUND Percutaneous excimer laser coronary angioplasty (ELCA) is a new technique for recanalization of arteries obstructed by coronary atherosclerosis. This study was conducted to assess the complication rate and determine the influence of clinical and angiographic characteristics on complications after ELCA. METHODS AND RESULTS A detailed, quantitative, angiographic core laboratory analy...

BACKGROUND Treatment of saphenous vein graft (SVG) stenosis with percutaneous coronary intervention has a 15% to 20% incidence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) within 30 days. Although MACE rates are reduced significantly by the use of embolic protection devices (EPDs), neither the level of baseline risk nor the benefit provided by EPDs has been well characterized. METHODS AND RESULTS D...

Percutaneous intervention of coronary bifurcation lesion represents a technical challenge to the interventional cardiologist. It has been associated with lower procedural success, higher complication and restenosis rates. A bifurcation lesion is deŽned as the presence of signiŽcant (greater than 50%) stenosis involving a parent (main) vessel at the ostium of the side-branch with or without sigR...

background: studies have shown controversial effects of obesity on major adverse cardiac events (mace) after percutaneous coronary intervention (pci). we sought to investigate the impact of the body mass index (bmi) on the mid-term outcome following successful pci. methods: between march 2006 and august 2008, 3948 patients underwent successful elective pci in tehran heart center, tehran, iran, ...

A32-year-old 15-day-postpartum G3P2 woman presented with sudden cardiac arrest due to an acute anterolateral wall myocardial infarction. An emergent coronary angiogram revealed a mild 30% distal left main tapering, severe diffuse compromise of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) as well as the diagonal lumen, and normal left circumflex (LCx) and right coronary arteries. Three day...

Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for coronary bifurcation lesions has been associated with lower procedural success rates and worse clinical outcomes compared with PCI for simple coronary lesions. Angiographic evaluation alone is sometimes inaccurate and does not reflect the functional significance of bifurcation lesions. The fractional flow reserve (FFR) is an easily obtainable, reliab...

OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to compare long-term follow-up results of crush versus culotte stent techniques in coronary bifurcation lesions. BACKGROUND The randomized Nordic Stent Technique Study showed similar 6-month clinical and 8-month angiographic results with the crush and culotte stent techniques of de novo coronary artery bifurcation lesions using sirolimus-eluting stents. Her...
