UNLABELLED INTRODUCTION Hydatid disease of the soft tissue is an exceedingly uncommon site to be affected by the tapeworm Echinococcus. The presentation is often vague and misleading. The diagnostic armamentarium has to be supplemented by a meticulously taken history and clinical examination. CASE PRESENTATION The present case report describes a 33-year-old Saudi male with a painless swell...
Achieving complete resolution of spinal hydatid cyst disease is quite challenging when bone is involved. Many authors reported the poor outcome of posterior decompression and laminectomy for intraosseous spinal hydatid disease. In an attempt to avoid a similar poor outcome, hydatid cysts were reached via both anterior and posterior surgical approaches in our patient. A 73-year-old man presented...
The parasitic tapeworm Echinococcus granulosis causes hydatid disease, which is rarely encountered in nonendemic regions. It is a progressive disease with serious morbidity risks. Rarely, these cysts are found in the spine. They are mainly found epidurally, originating from direct extension from pulmonary, abdominal or pelvic infestation. Nevertheless, the main mechanism for intradural involvem...
We report a 43-year-old man with a 20 x 20 cm hydatid cyst, spontaneously extruded out from the left lobe of the liver. This complication of hydatid cyst has not been recorded earlier, and makes the case unique in itself and worth reporting. The patient presented with a rare complication of biliary peritonitis of hydatid disease.
Cardiac hydatid cyst is an uncommon disease, mostly involving the myocardium. Involvement of the pericardium or isolated pericardial hydatid cysts are extremely rare and therefore can mimic other pericardial cystic diseases. Herein we present the radiological and surgical findings of an asymptomatic isolated pericardial hydatid cyst
Background and Objectives: Intraperitoneal primary hydatid cyst is a rare disease, and even in countries where the disease is endemic, only 2% of intra-abdominal cases are included. In this paper, a case of pelvic hydatid cyst in a young woman with abdominal pain, low blood pressure and a history of infertility is presented. Case presentation: The case was a 21 -year old woman with an abdomi...
Background & Importance: Hydatid disease of the spine is rare but constitutes approximately 50% of bone involvement cases in human hydatidosis. It is a severe condition associated with a high rate of morbidity, disability and mortality. Case Presentation: In the present paper, we report an intriguing case of cervical spinal hydatid disease mimicking traumatic burst fracture. Conclusion: A high ...
