Introduction: The finite helical axis (FHA) is a widely used kinematic technique to describe changes in joint motion. Specific to the spine, the most common application of the FHA has been to quantify changes in the location of instantaneous centre of rotation (ICR) of a motion segment while the spine completes a prescribed range of motion (e.g., flexion-extension trial) [1]. This measure can b...

In allusion to the Alpha-Beta search algorithm which is widely used in Gobang intelligent algorithm, this paper presents an improved method, that is, heuristic method using static table, reduces time. Then differential evolution optimize chess shape parameters and table parameters. According simulation data, both methods improve efficiency of algorithm.

We have examined the expression of the small extracellular chondroitin/dermatan sulfate proteoglycans (CS/DS PGs), biglycan, decorin, and PG-100, which is the proteoglycan form of colony stimulating factor-1, in the human endothelial cell line EA.hy 926. We have also examined whether modulation of the phenotype of EA.hy 926 cells by tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) is associated with spe...

Stopped-flow turbidimetric data indicate that platelets stimulated with low levels of thrombin undergo a shape transformation from disc to "sphere" to smaller spiny sphere that is indistinguishable from the shape change induced by ADP through different membrane receptor sites and a dissimilar receptor trigger mechanism. Under conditions where neither secretion nor aggregation occur, the extinct...

The paper reviews various topics in shape analysis. In particular, matching configurations using regression is emphasized. Connections with general shape spaces and shape distances are discussed. Kendall’s shape space and the affine shape space are considered in particular detail. Matching two configurations and the extension to generalized matching are illustrated with applications in electrop...

Differences between image processing and other disciplines in the definition and the role of shape are explored. Diverse approaches to quantifying shape are reviewed. Attention is drawn to the need for close coupling between image acquisition and shape analysis. An example of the effect of the means of observation on dynamic shape extraction is drawn from linguistics. Current instrumentation fo...

Motions of virtual characters in movies or video games are typically generated by recording actors using motion capturing methods. Animations generated this way often need postprocessing, such as improving the periodicity of cyclic animations or generating entirely new motions by interpolation of existing ones. Furthermore, search and classification of recorded motions becomes more and more imp...

Local scale variations within the same species are common in nature. The shape matching puzzle poses fascinating questions, like how should we measure the discrepancy between a small dog with large ears and a large one with small ears? are there similar geometric structures that are common to an elephant and a giraffe? what is the morphometric similarity between a blue whale and a dolphin? Exis...

We investigated the molecular and cellular actions of receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) alpha in integrin signaling using immortalized fibroblasts derived from wild-type and PTP alpha-deficient mouse embryos. Defects in PTP alpha-/- migration in a wound healing assay were associated with altered cell shape and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) phosphorylation. The reduced haptotaxis to fibr...
