Three kinds of coordination polymers ([M(dehp)3], M = Ce, Fe, or Al) were prepared by mixing the sodium form (Na(dehp)) of di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid and MCl3 in an ethanol-water binary mixture. They have monoclinic crystalline structure with similar lattice parameters. The lanthanide ion (Ln(3+) = La(3+), Sm(3+), Dy(3+), or Yb(3+)) exchange properties were studied in a 20 : 80 vol% ethan...

In this work, water triggered dynamic catechol-Fe3+ coordinate bonds are revealed and studied at atomic, molecular and macroscopic levels using Mössbauer spectroscopy, rheological analysis, etc. DOPA-iron complexation is found to be dynamic in the presence of water, and this dynamic manner is immobilized after removing water. Accordingly, a water saturated lipophilic polymer containing catechol...

The refolding of levansucrase denatured by urea was studied as a possible model for the second step of the secretion pathway of this protein. The folding-unfolding transition was monitored by measuring intrinsic fluorescence and resistance to proteolysis. Both methods provided the same estimation for the unfolding free energy of levansucrase, AGD, which was 30.1 + 1.7 kJ mol-1 (7.2 + 0.4 kcal m...

The reagent Rh-C, incorporating a rhodamine moiety and a coumarin backbone and prepared via click chemistry, was developed as the first single molecule for detecting Cu2+, Fe3+ and Cr3+. Its response to Cu2+ in different solutions is visible to the naked eye and it exhibits a ratiometric fluorescence response to Fe3+ in methanol and Cr3+ in acetonitrile.

Methane emission was inhibited by aluminium ion in paddy fields. Addition of Al3+ (20 mM) to the culture medium containing cells of pure Methanosarcina barkeri, inhibited methanogenesis. Methanogenic co-factor, F-420, was isolated and purified from Methanosarcina barkeri MS. Spectrophotometric and spectrofluorometric analysis of interaction between co-factor, F-420, and Al3+ revealed that they ...

In humans, sulfite is generated endogenously by the metabolism of sulfur containing amino acids such as methionine and cysteine. Sulfite is also formed from exposure to sulfur dioxide, one of the major environmental pollutants. Sulfite is used as an antioxidant and preservative in dried fruits, vegetables, and beverages such as wine. Sulfite is also used as a stabilizer in many drugs. Sulfite t...

The response mechanism of the iron(III) chalcogenide glass membrane ion-selective electrode (ISE) in saline media has been studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). EIS equivalent circuits and XPS surface compositions for the FeIII ISE are consistent with the presence of two surface films probably comprising a outer surface layer (OSL...

The minerals of the pyrochlore group exhibit a large range of chemical composition. The general structural formula can be written as A2–mB2X6–wY1–n•pH2O. The occupancy of the eight-fold-coordinated A site can reflect the degree of alteration of the pyrochlore. In unaltered pyrochlore-group minerals, this site is completely filled by Na and Ca, whereas in the altered equivalents, the A site is o...
