Grand-canonical Monte Carlo simulations and adsorption experiments are conducted to understand the adsorption of CO2 onto bundles of 3D aligned double-walled carbon-nanotubes of diameter 5 nm at 303 K. The simulation of partial adsorption isotherms, i.e., only inner tube volume, only interstices between tubes, and unrestricted, allows a breakdown of the experimental adsorption isotherms into co...

The potential of water hyacinth ash for phenol adsorption from aqueous solution was studied. Batch kinetic and isotherm studies were carried out under varying experimental conditions of contact time, phenol concentration, adsorbent dosage and pH. The adsorption of phenol decreased with increasing pH. The Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models were used for the mathematical description of ads...

the removal ofxylenol orange from aqueous solution onto the coal ash was investigated at room temperature. the results show that the adsorption capacity of xylenol orange increased as the adsorption time increased and then equilibrium established after 30 min adsorption time. the results obtained revealed that the coal ash removed about 80 % of xylenol orange from the aqueous solution within 40...

Bundle morphology and adsorptive contributions from nanotubes and impurities are studied both experimentally and by simulation using a computer-aided methodology, which employs a small physisorbed probe molecule to explore the porosity of nanotube samples. Grand canonical Monte Carlo simulation of nitrogen adsorption on localized sites of a bundle is carried out to predict adsorption in its acc...

Constructed wetlands are an attractive choice for removing arsenic (As) within water resources used for drinking water production. The role of substrate and vegetation in As removal processes is still poorly understood. In this study, gravel, zeolite (microporous aluminosilicate mineral), ceramsite (lightweight expanded clay aggregate) and manganese sand were tested as prospective substrates wh...

A substantive approach converting waste date pits to mercerized mesoporous date pit activated carbon (DPAC) and utilizing it in the removal of Cd(II), Cu(II), Pb(II), and Zn(II) was reported. In general, rapid heavy metals adsorption kinetics for Co range: 25-100 mg/L was observed, accomplishing 77-97% adsorption within 15 min, finally, attaining equilibrium in 360 min. Linear and non-linear is...

Adsorption is the net accumulation of a chemical species at the interface between a solid phase and an aqueous solution phase, leading to a loss from the solution phase (Sposito, 1989). Adsorption reactions can be described by various models. Empirical models provide descriptions of adsorption data without theoretical basis. Examples are the distribution coefficient, the Freundlich adsorption i...

Adsorption of reactive orange 16 by quaternary chitosan salt (QCS) was used as a model to demonstrate the removal of reactive dyes from textile effluents. The polymer was characterized by infrared (IR), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDXS) analyses and amount of quaternary ammonium groups. The adsorption experiments were conducted at different pH values and initial dye concentrations. Ad...

The chemically crosslinked metal-complexed chitosans were synthesized by using the ion-imprinting method from a chitosan with four metals (Cu(II), Zn(II), Ni(II) and Pb(II)) as templates and glutaraldehyde as a crosslinker. The influences of adsorption conditions, including molar ratios of crosslinker/chitosan and pH changes, were studied. They were used to investigate for comparative adsorptio...

Chrysoidine dye was examined as an inhibitor for mild steel in 1N HCl using weight loss, gasometric and thermometric methods. Parameters such as inhibition efficiency and corrosion rates were evaluated. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increase in the inhibitor concentration. To study the adsorption of the inhibitor on the mild steel surface, adsorption isotherm was plotted.
