Profiles of scalar, downwelling, upwelling, and spectral irradiance were measured on 37 dates in 1982-1983. Values of the attenuation coefficient K were 0.8-1.2 m-l, and the reflectance R was 0.03-0.06. By Kirk’s method, the absorption and scattering coefficients a and b were found to be 0.44-0.83 and 1.8-5.0 m-l. Also measured were turbidity, chlorophyll, and absorption spectra of dissolved ye...
The absorption coefficient of a substance distributed as discrete particles in suspension is less than that of the same material dissolved uniformly in a medium-a phenomenon commonly referred to as the flattening effect. The decrease in the absorption coefficient owing to flattening effect depends on the concentration of the absorbing pigment inside the particle, the specific absorption coeffic...
Cavity ring down absorption spectroscopy with a continuous light souree is used to measure the transition frequencies and absolute absorption coefficient of the weak b ItCv' = 2) +--X I;-Cv" = 0) transition of 02. The absorption spectrum is extracted from a measurement of the magnitude of the phase shift that an intensity modulated continuous light beam experiences upon passing through an unsta...
We have studied the absorption of electromagnetic radiation of an anisotropic quantum dot taking into account the spin-flip processes that is associated with the interaction of the electrons with optical phonons. It is shown that these processes lead to the resonance absorption. Explicit formula is derived for the absorption coefficient. The positions of the resonances peaks are found.
Two-dimensional quantitative images of the density of chlorine in a supersonic expansion are produced with an absolute accuracy of 5% in 150-microm pixels by using optical absorption tomography. An incoherent arc-lamp source provides ample ultraviolet radiation for high-resolution optical absorption tomographic measurements. A measurement of the chlorine absorption coefficient is reported.
We examined the light-absorption properties of various samples of mineral particles suspended in water, which included pure mineral species (quartz, calcite, illite, kaolinite, and montmorillonite) and natural particulate assemblages such as desert dust originating from different locations in the Sahara. The absorption coefficient was measured in the spectral region from ultraviolet (UV) to nea...
The contrast ratio, light reflectivity, scattering coefficient, and absorption coefficient of four composites and an unfilled resin were calculated algebraically from reflection spectrophotometric data using Kubelka's equations. The correlation coefficient between calculated and experimental values of contrast ratio was 0.9996. Values of infinite optical thickness ranged from 4.19 to 6.70 mm.
Empirical algorithms for the total absorption coefficient and absorption coefficient by pigments for surface waters at 440 nm were developed by applying a quadratic formula that combines two spectral ratios of remote-sensing reflectance. For total absorption coefficients ranging from 0.02 to 2.0 m-• a goodness offit was achieved between the measured and modeled data with a root-mean-square diff...
In this research, Ag nanoparticles were prepared by using g-radiation at concentration of 5.18×10-3 M and irradiated at different doses. A green laser was employed as excited source for measuring nonlinear refractive index and absorption coefficient. The measurements were done by z-scan method for both, closed and open aperture at temperature room. We deduced that with growth of size of Ag nano...
