The Rhesus (Rh) blood group system is one of the most complex systems. Over 46 different antigens have been serologically defined. Rh antigens are associated with the red cell membrane and are considered important fortheir integrity. The genes for Rh antigens are encoded together on the short arm of chromosome. One gene codes for Rh D antigen while the other gene encodes the polypeptide carryin...

Most autoantibodies in patients with warm antibody autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) have specificity within the Rh system. Using rare cells such as -Dand cells, Weiner and Vos (1963) described specificity against normal cells (nI), partially deleted cells (pdl), and deleted cells (dl). Recently, autoantibodies which failed to react with Rh,, ,, cells that were of anti-U specificity have been ...

The importance of determination of ABO Blood Groups in antenatal patients is considered, particularly in the context of the diagnosis of ABO mediated haemolytic disease of the newborn and blood transfusion during pregnancy and delivery. It is concluded that the investigation is of little benefit to either patient or doctor, and that it should be abandoned as part of routine antenatal procedures.

Background & Objective: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the most recent emerging viral disease. Defining the epidemiological aspects and factors influencing the susceptibility of the patients to COVID-19 has been an ongoing struggle. In the present study, we have investigated the connection between ABO histo-blood group phenotypes and the COVID-19. Methods:...

Plasmapheresis has been used in the management of immunologic renal disease for the last 40 years. The rationale behind this approach is to remove pathogenic immune mediators, such as autoantibodies and immune complexes, from the circulation. There may also be benefit in depleting proinflammatory molecules, such as complement components and coagulation factors. Initial experience was gained in ...

OBJECTIVES To identify venous thromboembolism (VTE) disease-susceptibility genes. PATIENTS AND METHODS We performed in silico genome wide association scan (GWAS) analyses using genotype data imputed to approximately 2.5 million single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from adults with objectively-diagnosed VTE (n=1503), and controls frequency matched on age and gender (n=1459; discovery populat...

rhd antigen is the most immunogenic and clinically significant antigen of red blood cells after abo system. it has historically been associated with hemolytic disease of the newborn (hdn) which is now routinely prevented by the administration of polyclonal anti-d immunoglobulin. this management of hdn has proven to be one of the most successful cases of prophylactic treatment based on antibody ...

BACKGROUND The major challenge in ABO-incompatible transplantation is to minimize antibody-mediated rejection. Effective reduction of the anti-ABO blood group antibodies at the time of transplantation has made ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation a growing practice in our hospital and in centers worldwide. ABO antibodies result from contact with A- and B-like antigens in the intestines via n...
