PURPOSE Tumors induce T-cell apoptosis as a mechanism of inhibiting antitumor immunity. Using coculture experiments, it has been shown that tumor lines stimulate T-cell apoptosis by a pathway involving a mitochondrial permeability transition and cytochrome c release. Activated T cells express abundant levels of Bcl-2, an antiapoptotic molecule that would be expected to confer resistance to such...

Cell-based biosensors (CBBs) are becoming important tools for biosecurity applications and rapid diagnostics in food microbiology for their unique capability of detecting hazardous materials. Pollutants, such as heavy metals and chemicals, are now considered as a global threat and are associated with detrimental health outcomes. Fast and accurate detection of pollutants is essential to reduce t...

background and objective: in addition to the use of chemicals in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and hygiene industries, use of herbal and natural compounds have also increased. it seems natural ingredients compared with the chemical components show less side effects, such as mutagenicity and carcinogenesis however, their use can also be associated with side effects and toxicity. some significan...

It is now understood that the genetic plasticity of cancer cells can lead to alterations that confer selective growth advantages to the tumor, some of which play a role in immune escape. A number of mutations veiling tumor cells from host immune defenses have been well characterized but more recent studies suggest that a variety of tumors can also express products that are actually toxic for th...

Viable and nonviable Weissella confusa strain PL9001 inhibited the binding of Helicobacter pylori to human gastric-cell line MKN-45 cells by more than 90%. Spent culture supernatant of PL9001 rapidly decreased the viability of H. pylori, rupturing cell walls. The results suggest that PL9001 is a probiotic that can reduce the infectivity and persistence of H. pylori.

One of the major complications in cancer chemotherapy is the development of resistance, and cisplatin, as one of the important medicines in treatment regimens of different cancers is not excluded. One of the most described cellular defense mechanisms involved in resistance is glutathione (GSH) and in this study, the effects of cisplatin on the total intracellular GSH level (GSHi) in some sensit...

In this syudy a continuous bovine kidney cell line derived from a primary bovine kidney cells was established for the first time in Iran. The cells were originating from two-day-old normal male calf of Holstein breed. The cell cultures were continuously passaged following complete proliferation of primary cells. The specific properties or characteristics of the cell were defined using cytogenet...

Bone marrow examination of a patient with a myeloproliferative disorder revealed monosomy for chromosome No. 6 (45,XX,-6). Two months later, during blastic crisis, reinvestigation of the bone marrow showed the presence of the Ph-1 chromosome in the previously aneuploid cell line (45,XX,-6,-22,+Ph-1). This case differs from those previously published in that the Ph-1 chromosome appeared de novo ...

Background: Leukemia is a malignant proliferative disorder of the hematopoietic cells. The important role of angiogenesis in leukemia has been reported by several studies. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a large group of endopeptidases which degredate the extracellular matrix and play an important role in angiogenesis. Objective: The present study was conducted to evaluate the patterns of ...
