Investigations on the dose response of cell fusion, induced by ionfree aqueous polyethylene glycol (PEG) solutions, reveal distinct lowest fusogenic PEG concentrations for different permanently growing mammalian cell lines. Part of the requisite PEG can be replaced by carbohydrates, preserving the fusogenity of the solutions. This discriminates two effects of PEG solutions causing cell fusion: ...

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) lacks effective treatment options due to the absence of traditional therapeutic targets. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has emerged as a promising target for TNBC therapy because it is overexpressed in about 50% of TNBC patients. Here we describe a PEG engager that simultaneously binds polyethylene glycol and EGFR to deliver PEGylated nanomedici...

Dietary polyethylene-glycol (PEG) 8000, a nonfermented polymer laxative, strongly suppresses azoxymethane-induced aberrant crypt foci (ACF) in the colon of rats, as shown in a previous study (D. E. Corpet et al., Carcinogenesis (Lond.), 20: 915–918, 1999). In the present study, we tested the effect of PEG administered during either initiation or postinitiation, the dose-response effect of PEG, ...

PURPOSE To explore the possibility of the PEGylated liposome-protamine-hyaluronic acid nanoparticles (PEG-LPH-NP) loaded with siRNA (PEG-LPH-NP-S) in ARPE19 cells and a laser-induced rat model for the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV). METHODS PEG-LPH-NP-S was characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The encapsulation efficiency of si...

Poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(aspartate-hydrazide) (PEG-p(Asp-Hyd)) was modified using either levulinic acid (LEV) or 4-acetyl benzoic acid (4AB) attached via hydrazone bonds. Paclitaxel (PTX) conjugated to the linkers formed PEG-p(Asp-Hyd-LEV-PTX) and PEG-p(Asp-Hyd-4AB-PTX). PEG-p(Asp-Hyd-LEV-PTX) and PEG-p(Asp-Hyd-4AB-PTX) assemble into unimodal polymeric micelles with diameters of 42 nm a...

OBJECTIVES To present our experience with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) seeding of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) sites and to review all reported cases to identify risk factors and develop strategies for complication avoidance. MATERIALS AND METHODS The records of 4 patients with PEG site metastasis from HNSCC were identified from the authors' institution. Thirty-e...

In this study, we tethered terminal uracil groups onto short-chain poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) to form the polymers, uracil (U)-PEG and U-PEG-U. Through AC impedance measurements, we found that the conductivities of these polymers increased upon increasing the content of the lithium salt, LiAsF6, until the Li-to-PEG ratio reached 1:4, with the conductivities of the LiAsF6/U-PEG blends being gre...

The vesicular stomatitis virus cytopathic effect reduction assay is suitable to quantify polyethylene glycol-alpha interferon 2a (PEG-IFN-alpha 2a) and PEG-IFN-alpha 2b. Human serum and ribavirin did not interfere with the assay. This bioassay was successfully used for assaying PEG-IFN-alpha 2a and PEG-IFN-alpha 2b in serum samples from patients undergoing combination therapy.

In this study, we report detailed information on the internal structure of PNIPAM-b-PEG-b-PNIPAM nanoparticles formed from self-assembly in aqueous solutions upon increase in temperature. NMR spectroscopy, light scattering, and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) were used to monitor different stages of nanoparticle formation as a function of temperature, providing insight into the fundamenta...

Therapeutic effect of glioma is often limited due to low permeability of delivery systems across the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) and poor penetration into the tumor tissue. In order to overcome the two barriers, we proposed Angiopep-conjugated PEG-PCL nanoparticles (ANG-PEG-NP) as a dual targeting drug delivery system for glioma treatment basing on low density lipoprotein receptor related protein...
