the armadillo could be considered as an experimental model for leprosy studies. mycobacterium leprae main host cells are macrophages and schwann cells. however, endocytosis and germicidal activities of armadillo macrophages and monocytes have not yet been evaluated. the aim of this research was to evaluate endocytosis and nbt-reduction activities of monocyte-derived macrophages (mdm) and monocy...
CD40 is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily. Studies with human B cells show that the binding of CD154 (gp39, CD40L) to CD40 recruits TNF receptor- associated factor 2 (TRAF2) and TRAF3 to the receptor complex, induces the downregulation of the nonreceptor-associated TRAFs in the cell and induces an increased expression of Fas on the cell surface. Combined signaling...
Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) is an inflammatory cytokine which plays crucial roles in pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases. The current study aimed to investigate the binding abilities of I44 and I49 domain antibodies to TNF-α. The dAbs were expressed in bacterial expression system and purified by affinity chromatography using Ni-sepharose column. The expression and purity of the protei...
Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) produced by tumor cells after gene transfer can effectively suppress the growth of locally growing tumors. We wanted to test the effects of "local" TNF on the growth of a highly metastatic cell line. Therefore, a recombinant retrovirus allowing expression of the TNF gene by the beta-actin promotor has been constructed and used to infect the two tumor cell lines EB an...
Tumor Necrosis Factor - a Mediates Changes in Tissue Protein Turnover in a Rat Cancer Cachexia Model
Rats bearing the Yoshida AH-130 ascites hepatoma showed enhanced fractional rates of protein degradation in gastrocnemius muscle, heart, and liver, while fractional synthesis rates were similar to those in non-tumor bearing rats. This hypercatabolic pattern was associated with marked perturbations of the hormonal homeostasis and presence of tumor necrosis factor in the circulation. The daily ad...
background: infl ammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (il-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (tnf-α) are elevated in end-stage renal disease (esrd). il-6 and tnf-α are toxins which deteriorate renal function, and their pathogenic role has been confi rmed in cardiovascular and oral diseases. this study was designed to investigate the salivary levels of il-6 and tnf-α in patients with esrd un...
Small but effective: two natural-product-like inhibitors of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α; represented in green in the picture) have been identified using structure-based virtual screening. These compounds represent only the third and fourth examples of direct targeting of TNF-α by a small molecule, and display potency comparable to that of the strongest TNF-α inhibitor reported to date.
Serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) was evaluated in Vibrio vulnificus-infected patients at admission. The median TNF-α concentration in the non-survivor group was determined to be 261.0 pg/mL, in contrast to 69.5 pg/mL in the survivor group (P = 0.001). Hence, serum TNF-α concentration may potentially be an early predictor of the mortality in patients with Vibrio septicemia.
