The distribution of Yersinia enterocolitica in slaughtered pigs in China was studied. A total of 8,773 samples were collected and examined from different pig abattoirs in 11 provinces from 2009 to 2011. Of these, 4,495 were oral-pharyngeal swab (tonsils) samples from pigs, 1,239 were from intestinal contents, and 3,039 were feces samples from abattoirs or local pigpens. The data showed that 1,1...

Patients are often referred to the genitourinary clinic for screening for urethral infections after a clinical diagnosis of Reiter's syndrome or reactive arthritis. We report a case of reactive polyarthritis in which serological evidence of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis infection was found in the absence of the other common precipitating organisms, such as Chlamydia spp, Klebsiella spp, Shigella ...

YopN is a secreted protein that prior to secretion directly interacts with the cytosolic SycN/YscB chaperone complex and TyeA. This study identifies a secreted YopN-TyeA hybrid protein that is expressed by Yersinia pestis, but not by Yersinia enterocolitica. DNA sequence analysis and site-directed mutagenesis studies demonstrate that the hybrid protein is the result of a +1 translational frames...

Citrobacter koseri, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Edwardsiella tarda, Yersinia enterocolitica, Alkalescens dispar, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Vibrio alginolyticus were seven interesting microorganisms isolated recently in our diagnostic laboratory.

Three different Yersinia enterocolitica serotype O8 strains harboring mutations in virulence-associated genes coding for Yersinia adhesin A (YadA), Mn-cofactored superoxide dismutase (SodA), and high-molecular-weight protein 1 were analyzed for their ability to colonize and persist in tissues after orogastric immunization of C57BL/6 mice. We demonstrated that all three Yersinia mutant strains w...

The incidence of diarrhoeal disease are very high in our population and bacterial etiology amounts to 43.55% of all cases. Pathogen such as Aeromonas hydrophila, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Yersinia enterocolitica and Campylobacter are also present in significant numbers, they make up 50% of bacterial causes. All enteric pathogens can be easily isolated on commonly used media and could be precise...

We report here the complete genome sequences of four European Yersinia enterocolitica mammalian isolates of bioserotype 4/O:3. The genomes have an average size of 4.50 Mb, a G+C content of 47%, and between 4,231 and 4,330 coding sequences (CDSs). No relevant differences were detected by genome comparison between mammalian and human isolates.

Type Three Secretion (T3S) ATPases are involved in delivery of virulent factors from bacteria to their hosts (through injectisome) in an energy (ATP) dependent manner during pathogenesis. The activities of these ATPases are tightly controlled by their specific regulators. In Yersinia enterocolitica, YsaN was predicted as a putative ATPase of the Ysa-Ysp Type Three Secretion System (T3SS) based ...

A Congo red-magnesium oxalate agar medium was developed to detect expression of virulence-associated calcium dependency and Congo red absorption in Yersinia enterocolitica. Of the 157 pathogenic serotypes tested, 119 (75.8%) were positive; 98% of nonpathogenic serotypes and strains of three other Yersinia species were negative.
