Reverse time migration produces an image by crosscorrelating the solution of the wave equation solved forward in time with the wave equation solved backwards in time. Solution of the wave equation can be computationally prohibitive for large subsurface regions. Therefore one typically combines a finite difference discretization of the wave equation with a parallel computing paradigm such as dom...

True amplitude one-way wave equations provide full waveform solutions that agree with leading order WKBJ solutions of the full, two-way wave equation away from caustics and other anomalies of the ray field. Both a proof of this fact and numerical examples are available in the literature. Near smooth caustics, ray-theoretic solutions fail for both the one-way and two-way wave equations; the WKBJ...

A mathematical model is presented to investigate the effects of sandiness, irregular boundary interfaces, heterogeneity and viscoelasticity on the phase velocity of Love waves. Geometry of the problem is consisting of an initially stressed viscoelastic layer with corrugated irregular boundaries, which is sandwiched between heterogeneous orthotropic semi-infinite half-space with initial stress a...

This paper concerned with the dispersion of Love wave in a fiber-reinforced medium lying over a heterogeneous half-space. The heterogeneity is caused by the consideration of quadratic variation in density and directional rigidity of lower half-space. The irregularity has been considered in the form of rectangle at the interface of the fiber-reinforced layer and heterogeneous half-space. The dis...

Rogue periodic waves stand for rogue waves on the periodic background. Two families of traveling periodic waves of the modified Korteweg–de Vries (mKdV) equation in the focusing case are expressed by the Jacobian elliptic functions dn and cn. By using one-fold and twofold Darboux transformations, we construct explicitly the rogue periodic waves of the mKdV equation. Since the dn-periodic wave i...

Rogue periodic waves stand for rogue waves on the periodic background. Two families of traveling periodic waves of the modified Korteweg–de Vries (mKdV) equation in the focusing case are expressed by the Jacobian elliptic functions dn and cn. By using one-fold and two-fold Darboux transformations of the travelling periodic waves, we construct new explicit solutions to the mKdV equation. Since t...

In this work, we successfully construct the new exact traveling wave solutions of the generalized Sinh–Gordon equation by new application of the homogeneous balance method. The idea introduced in this paper can be applied to other nonlinear evolution equations.

We consider solutions to the wave equation in 3+1 spacetime dimensions whose data is compactly supported at some initial time. For points outside a ball containing the initial support, we develop an outgoing wave condition, and associated one-way propagation formula, for the partial waves in the spherical-harmonic decomposition of the solution. The propagation formula expresses the l-th partial...

The multiple exp-function method is a new approach to obtain multiple wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations (NLPDEs). By this method one can obtain multi-soliton solutions of NLPDEs. In this paper, using computer algebra systems, we apply the multiple exp-function method to construct the exact multiple wave solutions of a (2+1)-dimensional Boiti–Leon–Manna–Pempinelli equati...
