Heat-stable antibacterial activity in the following suspensions was demonstrated against Pseudomonas aeruginosa at pH 6.5, 6.0, and 5.5: (i) pooled colon contents of normal mice; (ii) an anaerobic, 48-h culture of normal mouse feces; and (iii) anaerobic, 48-h cultures of different bacteria from human colon flora (Escherichia coli, Bacteroides fragilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus mirabil...

The present study focuses on process inhibitions in Danish centralized biogas plants. Collection of data from the plants and a number of interviews showed that inhibitions occur frequently. High concentrations of ammonia, long chain fatty acids or other inhibitory compounds, and foaming in prestorage tanks are well known causes of inhibition. These problems mainly occurs due to: 1) inadequate k...

diet as a part of lifestyle plays a pivotal role in the development of metabolic syndrome and its consequences. fatty acid composition as a part of dietary intake affects blood fatty acid concentrations, insulin sensitivity and different metabolic pathways associated with the occurrence and consequences of the metabolic syndrome. the aim of this review is to evaluate the effects of dietary fatt...

The aim of this study was to obtain a basic knowledge of the fatty acid compositions and consequently, determination of diet for Turbo coronatus by means of fatty acids biomarkers. Samples were collected during a year (April, July, October 2007 and February 2008) in coastal areas of Chabahar Bay in Oman Sea. Biomarker fatty acids revealed that diet of Turbo coronatus included phytoplankton, zoo...

conclusions our results showed that vitamin e plus omega free fatty acids decrease the severity of mastodynia better than vitamin e alone. results vitamin e plus omega free fatty acids are more effective than the use of vitamin e alone in decreasing mastodynia. significant difference was seen between the cardiff breast score (cbs) of the vitamin e group compared to vitamin e - omega group (p < ...

A comparative evaluation of single-stage and two-stage anaerobic digestion processes for biomethane and biohydrogen production using thin stillage was performed to assess the impact of separating the acidogenic and methanogenic stages on anaerobic digestion. Thin stillage, the main by-product from ethanol production, was characterized by high total chemical oxygen demand (TCOD) of 122 g/L and t...

The objective of this experiment was to determine the respective effects of level of intake and of the amount of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) present in the rumen on VFA ruminal absorption. In a factorial design, six ewes received a hay diet either at 126 or at 73% of energy maintenance requirements. Their capacity of absorption of VFAs was evaluated by the method of temporarily isolated rumens,...

Sheep fed a hay-concentrate diet were adapted to pectin administration and ruminal infusion of methanol. Both treatments resulted in a strong increase in the rate of methanogenesis from methanol. Quantitative data show that methanol was exclusively converted into methane. Treatments did not influence ruminal volatile fatty acid percentages.

The purpose of this research was to develop a better understanding of the dynamic effects of anaerobic hydraulic retention time (HRT) on both enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) performance and enrichment of phosphorus accumulating organisms (PAOs). The research was conducted using laboratory-scale sequencing batch reactors inoculated with mixed microbial consortia and fed real wastew...
