Coupled thermal and carrier transports (electron/ hole generation, recombination, diffusion and drifting) in laser photoetching of GaAs thin film is investigated. A new volumetric heating mechanism originating from SRH (Shockley– Read–Hall) non-radiative recombination and photon recycling is proposed and modeled based on recent experimental findings. Both volumetric SRH heating and Joule heatin...

in this work, designs for planar, interdigitated circular electrode structures for cell membrane permeabilization procedures are analysed using finite element method analysis. The generated electric field intensity, homogeneity and the Joule heating are evaluated. The optimal electrode configuration for successful transfection procedures is investigated. Based on the simulation results, an opti...

We developed a novel method to measure local temperature at micro/nano-scale regions using selective deposition of quantum dots (QDs) as a sensitive temperature probe and measured the temperature of Joule heated silicon microwires (SiMWs) and silicon nanowires (SiNWs) by this method. The QDs are selectively coated only on the surface of the SiMWs and SiNWs by a sequential process composed of se...

Measurements with the Sondrestrom radar have been used to examine the daytime thermospheric neutral wind and to relate that wind to other geophysical parameters. Ion drag is found to be particularly important for determining the wind pattern. However, evidence is presented that the wind pattern is significantly influenced by soft particle precipitation and, possibly, by Joule heating.

Heat exchangers play an important role in the performance of thermal machines, namely, electric power generators, engines and refrigerators. Regarding thermoelectrics, this influence is even higher, owing to the difficulty of transferring heat from the small surface area of a typical thermoelectric module to a bigger one. Particularly, in the hot face of an average 40 mm x 40 mm Peltier module,...

This paper investigates the impact of Joule heating on the scaling trends of advanced VLSI interconnects. It shows that the interconnect Joule heating can strongly affect the maximum operating temperature of the global wires which, in turn, will constrain the scaling of current density to mitigate electromigration and, thus, greatly degrade the expected speed improvement from the use of low-k d...

With the fast development of Internet and WWW, "information overload" has become an overwhelming problem, and collective attention of users will play a more important role nowadays. As a result, knowing how collective attention distributes and flows among different websites is the first step to understand the underlying dynamics of attention on WWW. In this paper, we propose a method to embed a...

In this paper, the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Couette flow of two non-Newtonian immiscible fluids micropolar and dusty (fluid-particle suspension) are considered in horizontal channel with heat transfer. A comprehensive mathematical model computational simulation modified cubic B-Spline-Differential Quadrature method (MCB-DQM) is described for flow. The coupled partial differential equa...

Photoconductive (PC) terahertz (THz) emitters are often limited by ohmic loss and Joule heating-as these effects can lead to thermal runaway and premature device breakdown. To address this, the proposed work introduces PC THz emitters based on textured InP materials. The enhanced surface recombination and decreased charge-carrier lifetimes of the textured InP materials reduce residual photocurr...
