Cryptococcus gattii is responsible for a large outbreak of potentially fatal disease that started in the late 1990s on Vancouver Island, Canada. How this fungus and the outbreak isolates in particular cause disease in immunocompetent people is unknown, with differing hypotheses. To explore genetic contributions, a pair of congenic a and α mating type strains was generated by a series of 11 back...
BACKGROUND Avibacterium paragallinarum, the causative agent of infectious coryza, is a highly contagious respiratory acute disease of poultry, which affects commercial chickens, laying hens and broilers worldwide. METHODOLOGY In this study, we performed the whole genome sequencing, assembly and annotation of a Peruvian isolate of A. paragallinarum. Genome was sequenced in a 454 GS FLX Titaniu...
The aim of this research is to estimate the virulence factor L. major exosome by real time gene expression. higher expression in footpad tissue was (29.34), day seven culture (20.37), twelve (12.25), highest line control (8.33). current work revealed that elevated comparison cultures media. levels were passage three and lowest one, level declined with progress time.
Human health is threatened by various infectious bacterial pathogens but is also supported by many commensal bacteria particularly in the intestinal tract. However, many of the bacterial pathogens and commensal bacteria are taxonomically indistinguishable, with pathogenic and commensal bacteria existing in the same genus and even species. A typical example is Escherichia coli, which is commonly...
Yersinia enterocolitica serotype O:3 and O:8 urease-negative mutants unable to express the 19-kDa beta subunit of urease were constructed and tested for virulence and arthritogenicity. Our results indicate that urease is needed for full virulence in oral infections and that it is not an arthritogenic factor in the rat model.
A Francisella tularensis live vaccine strain mutant (sodB(Ft)) with reduced Fe-superoxide dismutase gene expression was generated and found to exhibit decreased sodB activity and increased sensitivity to redox cycling compounds compared to wild-type bacteria. The sodB(Ft) mutant also was significantly attenuated for virulence in mice. Thus, this study has identified sodB as an important F. tula...
We report a patient with neonatal meningitis caused by a CTX-M-1-producing Escherichia coli K1 strain. The influence of CTX-M production on virulence was investigated in cell culture and a newborn mouse model of meningitis. CTX-M production had no influence on virulence but was a major factor in clinical outcome.
