E-commerce has become a key aspect of the global business environment, causing fundamental changes in markets and organisational structures. This chapter considers how knowledge management, the latest management approach aimed at improving business performance, can create new business opportunities in the new business environment that is defined by electronic commerce. Knowledge management deal...

Medical images show a great interest since it is needed in various medical applications. In order to decrease the size of medical images which are needed to be transmitted in a faster way; Region of Interest (ROI) and hybrid lossless compression techniques are applied on medical images to be compressed without losing important data. In this paper, a proposed model will be presented and assessed...

background: family-centered care is an essential concept in cancer but there is no consensus about its meaning and it remains an abstract concept. this study was conducted with the purpose of analyzing the concept of family-centered care in cancer. methods: concept analysis of family-centered care was conducted using hybrid model that has 3 phases: theoretical, field work and final analytical p...

The paper addresses the problem of defining a theoretical physical agent framework that combines rational agent decision making with abstractions from predictions and planning of the future of the physical environment. The objective of the new framework is to reduce complexity of logical inference of agents controlling autonomous vehicles and robots in space exploration, deep underwater explora...

This paper discusses agent architectures which are describable in terms of the “higher level” mental concepts applicable to human beings, e.g. “believes”, “desires”, “intends” and “feels”. We conjecture that such concepts are grounded in a type of information processing architecture, and not simply in observable behaviour nor in Newell’s knowledge-level concepts, nor Dennett’s “intentional stan...

We present a terminating tableau calculus for graded hybrid logic with global modalities, reflexivity, transitivity and role hierarchies. Termination of the system is achieved through pattern-based blocking. Previous approaches to related logics all rely on chain-based blocking. Besides being conceptually simple and suitable for efficient implementation, the pattern-based approach gives us a NE...

This paper describes an agent-based software architecture that intends to close the gap between hybrid systems and software agent architectures. The developed concepts and tools provide support for: task design, task planning, task execution, task coordination and task analysis for a multirobot system. Copywright © IFAC

The strengths and weaknesses of agent-based approaches and mathematical optimization techniques are analyzed and compared. Their appropriateness for dynamic distributed resource allocation is evaluated. We conclude that their properties are complementary and that it seems fruitful to try to combine the approaches. Some suggestions of such hybrid systems are sketched.

The process of generating chords for harmonizing a melody with the goal of mimicking an artist’s style is investigated in this paper. We compared and tested three different approaches, including a rule-based model, a statistical model, and a hybrid system of the two, for such tasks. Experiments were conducted using songs from seven stylistically identifiable pop/rock bands, and the chords gener...

In today’s computing environments every user interacts with several dozens of highly heterogeneous devices. These devices are frequently arranged in contexts; in any given context the user is interacting with a specific set of devices. Context oriented data staging is the problem of delivering up-to-date data to the devices of the current context, following the movement of the user between the ...
