This paper develops and evaluates a novel mechanism through which imports of unskilled intermediates (offshoring) increase wages of both skilled and unskilled workers by inducing skill-biased technology adoption and innovation in developed countries. Data for a panel of manufacturing industries in the United States over 1974-2005, strongly support the technology channel with a doubling of offsh...

This note estimates the long-run demand for skilled and unskilled labor using panel data for Colombian manufacturing plants. Unobserved heterogeneity and measurement error problems that commonly arise in microdata production estimates are examined. Output measurement errors cause OLS estimators to underestimate the output and wage response of employment demand. Time-difference estimators exagge...

For example, our model suggests why skilled workers can remain...

We investigated differences in trunk rotation patterns during baseball batting in eight skilled (collegiate level) players and nine unskilled novices using high-speed video cameras. The maximum angle during the backswing, angle at bat-ball impact, and angular displacement during the forward swing were analyzed for data on upper torso, pelvis, and torso-pelvis interaction (trunk twist) angles. W...

Using a three-sector general equilibrium model with non-traded goods, we investigate the impact of foreign direct investment on the real wages of skilled and unskilled workers. We show that foreign direct investment increases the real wages of skilled and unskilled workers, but widens the gap between the two under plausible conditions. JEL: F10, F11, F21
