Recessive mutations that prevent 3-hydroxyproline formation in type I collagen have been shown to cause forms of osteogenesis imperfecta. In mammals, all A-clade collagen chains with a GPP sequence at the A1 site (P986), except α1(III), have 3Hyp at residue P986. Available avian, amphibian and reptilian type III collagen sequences from the genomic database (Ensembl) all differ in sequence motif...

Immunofluorescent staining of frozen sections of rat bone marrow for collagen types I and III revealed the presence of a distinctive, collagen-producing cell type. Morphologically, these cells closely resembled reticular cells. They were large, with branching cytoplasm and were closely related to an extensive intercellular matrix of collagenous material that surrounded the hematopoietic cells o...

The Naka isoantigen is expressed on glycoprotein (GP) IV (CD36), a platelet membrane GP that has been identified as having a role in platelet interactions with collagen and thrombospondin and in binding Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes to endothelial cells and melanoma cells. We have studied normal platelets and Naka- platelets from two Japanese donors that have 1% of GPIV by concent...

Suspensory ligament (SL) injuries are an important cause of lameness in horses. The mechanical properties of connective tissue in normal and pathological ligaments are mainly related to fibril morphology, as well as collagen content and types. The purpose of this study was to evaluate, using biochemical and ultrastructural approaches, the alterations in collagen fibrils after injury. Eight Warm...

abstract basement membrane of glomerular mesangium (bmg) is a thin membrane which helps to support the capillary loops in a renal glomerulus and type iv collagen is require for complete bm formation during glomerulogenesis. in this investigation specific antibody of type iv collagen has been used in light microscopy to study development of bmg of the embryonic and postnatal mouse glomerular mes...

OBJECTIVE To study the healing process of the myocardium in hypertensive rats undergoing inhibition of nitric oxide synthesis. METHODS Two groups of animals were studied: one received L-NAME, 12 mg/kg/day, and the other was a control group. The presence of type III collagen, fibronectin, and alpha-smooth muscle actin-positive cells was assessed by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS Fibronectin w...

Cells obtained from normal human skin synthesize predominantly type I collogen in culture. Cells obtained from the skin of an infant with a severe form of osteogenesis imperfecta were found to synthesize as much type III as type I collagen. Decreased synthesis of type I collagen could explain the tissue fragility observed in this case.

Extracellular matrix components have rarely been the focus of interest in juvenile angiofibroma (JA) studies. Although JAs are known to be collagen-rich tumours, single collagens have not been analysed so far. This investigation aimed to study the expression of the fibrillar collagen types I, II and III in JAs using quantitative RT-PCR (n = 15), Western blot analysis (n = 7) and immunohistochem...

Left ventricular hypertrophy is based on cardiac myocyte growth. The hypertrophic process can be considered heterogeneous based on whether it also includes a remodeling and accumulation of fibrillar types I and III collagens that are responsible for impaired myocardial stiffness. In the heart, the messenger RNA (mRNA) for fibrillar collagen types I and III has been detected only in cardiac fibr...

PURPOSE To compare reinnervation in recombinant human collagen-based corneal substitutes with allografts during a 1-year postimplantation follow-up period in pigs. A retrospective comparison to innervation in porcine collagen-based biosynthetic grafts was also performed. METHODS Pigs received a corneal allograft or a substitute made of either recombinant human type-I or -III collagen. In vivo...
