The TREC Web Track explores and evaluates Web retrieval technology over large collections of Web data. In its current incarnation, the Web Track has been active since TREC 2009, where it included both a traditional adhoc retrieval task and a new diversity task [4]. The goal of this diversity task is to return a ranked list of pages that together provide complete coverage for a query, while avoi...

Recommendation of related articles is an important feature of the PubMed. The PubMed Related Citations (PRC) algorithm is the engine that enables this feature, and it leverages information on 22 million citations. We analyzed the performance of the PRC algorithm on 4584 annotated articles from the 2005 Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) Genomics Track data. Our analysis indicated that the PRC hig...

It is common for only partial relevance judgments to be used when comparing retrieval system effectiveness, in order to control experimental cost. Using TREC data, we consider the uncertainty introduced into per-topic effectiveness scores by pooled judgments, and measure the effect that incomplete evidence has on both the systems scores that are generated, and also on the quality of paired syst...

The University of Pittsburgh team participated in the interactive task of Legal Track in TREC 2009. We designed an experiment to investigate into the collaborative information behavior (CIB) of the group of people working on e-discovery tasks provided by Legal Track in TREC 2009. Through the studies, we proposed a model for understanding CIB in e-discovery.

This paper describes the four systems RMIT fielded for the TREC 2015 LiveQA task and the associated experiments. The challenge results show that the base run RMIT-0 has achieved an above-average performance, but other attempted improvements have all resulted in decreased retrieval effectiveness. Keywords-TREC LiveQA 2015; RMIT; passage retrieval; summarization; query trimming; headword expansion

We provide a description of the QACTIS question-answering system and its application to and performance in the 2004 TREC question-answering evaluation. Since this was also QACTIS’s first year competing at TREC, we provide a complete overview of its purpose, development, structure, and its future directions.

Aim: Intestinal temperature telemetry systems are promising monitoring and research tools in athletes. However, the additional equipment that must be carried to continuously record temperature data limits their use to training. The purpose of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of a new gastrointestinal temperature data logging and telemetry system (e-Celsius™) during water ba...
