The passage of plasma proteins across the placental barrier in humans is known to be highly selective. Thus, free maternal insulin has been reported not to cross the normal maternofetal barrier, although insulin-binding antibodies have been detected in newborn infants whose diabetic mothers received insulin therapy. In this report we demonstrate, with the use of a human antiserum that permits d...

To determine whether transplacental transmission could explain overwintering of bluetongue virus in the United Kingdom, we studied calves born to dams naturally infected during pregnancy in 2007-08. Approximately 33% were infected transplacentally; some had compromised health. In all infected calves, viral load decreased after birth; no evidence of persistent infection was found.

When sowing 6% oxalic acid decontaminated homogenates of 7-14-day-old calf tissue mixtures incubated in a growth stimulant VKG on MycCel DW nutrient medium, non-acid-fast and partially acid-fast cell wall deficient myco-bacteria tuberculosis (CWD MBT) which are marker infection were isolated 77,8% cases. Since the calves 3-14 days old, there was most likely transplacental transmission persisten...

Attention has recently focused on the possible teratogenic effects of the combination antiemetic doxylamine succinate, dicyclomine hydrochloride and pyridoxine hydrochloride (Debendox/Bendectin) prescribed to pregnant women. The InterRegional Epidemiological Study of Childhood Cancer (IRESCC), a case-control investigation has analysed data derived from interview reports and medical records of 5...

OBJECTIVE We examined the frequency and characteristics of chromosomally integrated human herpesvirus 6 among congenitally infected children. METHODS Infants with and without congenital human herpesvirus 6 infection were prospectively monitored. Cord blood mononuclear cell, peripheral blood mononuclear cell, saliva, urine, and hair follicle samples were examined for human herpesvirus 6 DNA. H...

Recombinant inbred BXH-2 mice spontaneously produce a B-tropic murine leukemia virus (MuLV) beginning early in life and have a high incidence of spontaneous myeloid leukemia. These traits are not characteristic of the progenitor strains (C57BL/6J and C3H/HeJ) or of 11 other recombinant inbred BXH strains. Genetic analysis has shown that the virus is not transmitted through the germ line, sugges...
