Iron incorporated zeolites were prepared from Na-A type zeolite synthesized from melting slag and FeCl3 solution and applied as adsorbents for NH3 and H2S gases. Iron incorporated zeolite was pelletized, calcined and used for gas adsorption experiment. XRD analyses of the zeolite revealed that Fe3þ concentration of solution more than 90mM could destruct the zeolite network structure. It was obs...

A colorimetric sensor array has been developed for the rapid and sensitive detection of 20 toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) at their PELs (permissible exposure limits). The color changes in an array of chemically responsive nanoporous pigments provide facile identification of the TICs with an error rate below 0.7%.

Several recent accidents with fatal outcomes occurring during discharge of logs and wood chips from ships in Swedish ports indicate the need to better understand the atmospheric conditions in holds and connecting stairways. The principal aim of the present study was to assess the air levels of oxygen and toxic gases in confined spaces following sea transportation of logs and wood chips. The foc...

Granular activated carbons (GACS) were developed from hard and soft lignocellulosic byproducts. Three activation strategies were evaluated which employed phosphoric acid, carbon dioxide or steam. A portion of these carbons were also subjected to air oxidation after activation. Uptake of both non-polar and polar, small organic compounds were followed as was the adsorption of copper. Our results ...

In railway tunnels, ventilation is carried out to prevent NO, NO2, and CO gas pollution caused by exhaust gases due the diesel locomotives on railway. Some calculations are used during ventilation. these calculations, factors like location structure of tunnel pressure belts that may occur should be considered one one. After control scenarios prepared based locations dimensions equipment used. P...

Here we demonstrate ZnO micro/nanowire sensors for hydrogen (H2)...

Bovine rumen fluid was fermented anaerobically with 25 mM R-propylene glycol, S-propylene glycol, or glycerol added. After 24 h, all of the propylene glycol enantiomers and approximately 80% of the glycerol were metabolized. Acetate, propionate, butyrate, valerate, and caproate concentrations, in decreasing order, all increased with incubation time. Addition of any of the three substrates somew...

Respiratory irritants cause acute lung injury. Their effects are distinguished from hypersensitivity induced lung injury by their mechanism of action a direct toxic effect and the speed of onset within minutes or hours rather than months or years. Respiratory irritants may be inhaled or transported to the lungs by the circulation. This article focuses on the long term consequences of inhaled re...

The determination of toxic components from fire gases is difficult because the environment is hot, reactions are often temperature dependent, and a lot of soot may be produced. Due to the different properties of the gas components, a different timeconsuming procedure for each species has traditionally been used. The use of FTIR (Fourier Transform InfraRed) spectrometers as a continuous monitori...

Certain inhaled chemicals, such as reactive, water-soluble gases, are readily absorbed by the nasal mucosa upon inhalation and may cause damage to the nasal epithelium. Comparisons of the spatial distribution of nasal lesions in laboratory animals exposed to formaldehyde with gas uptake rates predicted by computational models reveal that lesions usually occur in regions of the susceptible epith...
