We demonstrate detection and resolution of high power, 34 ns free electron laser pulses using a rectifying field effect transistor. The detector remains linear up to an input power of 11 ± 0.5 W at a pulse energy of 20 ± 1 μJ at 240 GHz. We compare its performance to a protected Schottky diode, finding a shorter intrinsic time constant. The damage threshold is estimated to be a few 100 W. The d...

|A signal-space detector estimates the channel input symbol based on the location of the nite-length observation signal in a multi-dimensional signal-space. The decision boundary is formed by a set of hyperplanes. The resulting detector structure consists of linear discriminant functions, threshold detectors, and a Boolean logic function. Our goal is to minimize the number of linear discriminan...

High-energy neutrinos with energies above a few $10^{16}$eV can be measured efficiently in-ice radio detectors which complement optical such as IceCube at higher energies. Several pilot arrays explore the technology successfully in Antarctica. Because of low flux and interaction cross-section it is vital to increase sensitivity detector much possible. In this manuscript, different approaches tr...

The application of supervised learning machines trained to minimize the Cross-Entropy error to radar detection is explored in this article. The detector is implemented with a learning machine that implements a discriminant function, which output is compared to a threshold selected to fix a desired probability of false alarm. The study is based on the calculation of the function the learning mac...

Milagro is a unique water Cherenkov detector designed for very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray astronomy. The water Cherenkov technique gives Milagro an unprecedented sensitivity and energy threshold. A deep detector layer is used to identify penetrating particles (muons and hadrons) present in hadron induced showers allowing for the rejection of backgrounds which substantially increases sensitivit...

The development of room temperature infrared (IR) detectors for wavelengths beyond NIR will open up many applications that are currently limited due to cooling requirements. Three approaches are discussed, which show promise for room temperature IR detection. Tunneling quantum dot (QD) detector, utilizes a tunneling barrier in order to block the dark current while permitting the photocurrent to...

Many corner detectors make use of edge detectors to extract edge points first. In this paper, we proposed a local edge detection algorithm that can be used well in corner detectors. Instead of marking edge points globally, we detect them locally based on both gradient magnitude threshold and gray level analysis. The process is dynamic and can provide correct edge points for detecting corners. T...

We report on a search for a supersymmetric B̃ meson with mass between 3.5 and 4.5 GeV/c2 using 4.52 fb of integrated luminosity produced at √ s = 10.52 GeV, just below the e+e− → BB̄ threshold, and collected with the CLEO detector. We find no evidence for a light scalar bottom quark.

Recently an important and interesting nonlinear generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) detector emerged in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data processing. However, the study of that detector is incomplete: the probability density function (pdf) of the test statistic was draw from numerical simulations without much theoretical support and is therefore, not firmly grounded. This corresp...
