In many dynamical systems and complex networks time delays appear naturally in feedback loops or coupling connections of individual elements. Moreover, in a whole class of systems, these delay times can depend on the state of the system. Nevertheless, so far the understanding of the impact of such state-dependent delays remains poor with a particular lack of systematic experimental studies. Her...

We investigate a new scheme for driving reflective bistable cholesteric displays. It relies on fast switching from the planar to the focal conic state. We show that 1 ms per line scanning speed is possible using conventional passive matrix drivers. In addition, there is no optical delay in the switching process.

By using the Markov process, system state transitions can be modelled to predict the system availability in many realistic applications, wherein all components of the system cannot be treated as identical because of their failure and repair characteristics. In this paper, efforts have been made to examine the availability characteristics for three different configurations with warm standby, swi...

While today’s computer networks support only best-effort service, future packet-switching integrated-services networks will have to support real-time communication services that allow clients to transport information with performance guarantees expressed in terms of delay, delay jitter, throughput, and loss rate. An important issue in providing guaranteed performance service is the choice of th...

One of the most important issues in power system restoration is overvoltages caused by transformer switching. These overvoltages might damage some equipment and delay power system restoration. This paper presents a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) to study transformer switching overvoltages. To achieve good generalization capability for developed RBFNN, equivalent parameters of the ...

This paper aims to study the steady-state response of the practical sliding mode controlled system (SMC). The nonlinearity of the switching term is approximately characterized by using its equivalent describing function. The parasitic dynamics is modeled as a first order lag transfer function, and the possible transport delay is particularly considered. Subsequently, the frequency domain method...

To support bursty traac on the Internet (and especially WWW) eeciently, optical burst switching (OBS) is proposed as a way to streamline both protocol and hardware in building the future generation Optical Internet. By leveraging the attractive properties of optical communications and at the same time, taking into account its limitations, OBS combines the best of optical circuit-switching and p...

This paper proposes and evaluates two related fast packet switching architectures based on time-division multiplexed integrated photonic fabrics. The architectures are targeted towards low-latency inter-node switching and intra-node routing in high-speed networks. The inter-node switch achieves output packet queueing via asynchronous time-division multiplexing a strictly-nonblocking photonic fa...

The direct torque control provides precise and quick response and the SVPWM algorithm gives good performance for control of induction motor drive, but these algorithms produces more acoustical noise resulting in increased distortion of harmonics. To reduce these effects various PWM techniques were used in recent. Though the deterministic pulse width modulation (PWM) algorithms give good perform...
