A model of the trumpet has been studied in which the NavierStokes equations are used to calculate the air pressure and velocity, while the lips are described using the swinging lip model of Adachi and Sato. This approach allows us to determine the pressure throughout the lip region, and thus calculate the lip motion without the approximations necessary in previous modeling work.
