Three new sulfonated porous coordination polymers (PCPs)/metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been synthesized using solvothermal methods. These PCPs possess porous structures with non-coordinating sulfonic acid groups or sulfonate with dimethyl ammonium cations and exhibit high proton conductivity at a low humidity of 60% RH (relative humidity) at ambient temperature.

The title compound, C(28)H(22)O(6)S(2)·2C(6)H(13)N·2H(2)O, was prepared by the reaction of a Wittig reagent and 2-formyl-benzene-sulfonic acid. The main molecule lies about an inversion centre at the midpoint of the C-C bond between the inner benzene rings. The mol-ecular conformation is stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The crystal structure is further stabilized by O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O ...

An enantioselective organocatalytic addition of sodium bisulfite to (E)-nitroalkenes has been developed by using a chiral bifunctional organocatalyst. The present methodology provides variety ?-nitroethanesulfonic acid compounds (17 examples) with excellent results: up 99 % yield and enantioselectivity (up 96 ee). reaction tolerates (hetero)aryl alkyl substituents on the ?-nitroalkenes, ?,?-dis...

Other than triarylamines, which are protonated by strong acids both at their N-atom and aromatic rings, pyrrole its N-substituted derivatives were exclusively the carbon atoms of heteroaromatic rings. Whereas with trifluoromethane sulfonic acid (TFS) stable pyrrolium salts obtained, weaker trifluoroacetic (TFA) oligomers formed. E.g., from N-(tert-butyl)pyrrole a dimeric compound could be unamb...

Dietary intake is the predominant route for human exposure to perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS). Single pollution events may thus affect human exposure if polluted ground and water is used to produce animal feed or food. In this study, a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK-) model is derived that describes the uptake of PFOS from contaminated feed by cows and its subsequent eliminati...

Over the past decades little research has been conducted on the environmental behavior and effects of fluorinated organochemicals (FOCs). Recently it has been reported that perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) is occurring worldwide. Little is known about the PFOS levels in organisms originating from the southern North Sea and the Western Scheldt estuary. In this study, we determined, for the f...

Here we present the first application of pore-expanded SBA-15 in heterogeneous catalysis. Pore expansion over the range 6-14 nm confers a striking activity enhancement towards fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) synthesis from triglycerides (TAG), and free fatty acid (FFA), attributed to improved mass transport and acid site accessibility.
