We compare the achievable load of three types of overloaded signature sets with multistage successive interference cancellation: random spreading (PN), WelchBound-Equality (WBE) sequences and overall permuted OCDMA/OCDMA (o-O/O) or PseudoNoise/OCDMA (PN/O). It is found that o-O/O outperforms PN and WBE for spreading factors N, varying from 16 to 256.
Recently, there have been an increasing interest in RFID system and RFID systems have been applied to various applications. Load balancing is a fundamental technique for providing scalability of systems by moving workload from overloaded nodes to under-loaded nodes. This paper presents an approach to adaptive load balancing for RFID middlewares. Workloads of RFID middlewares can have a consider...
There has been increasing demand for energy sustainable and lowcost operation in cloud computing. This paper proposes dynamic Geographical Load Balancing and energy buffering management (GLB) to achieve these goals which (i) shifts workload (particularly peak workload demand) toward Data centers that offer low utility rate or green energy at a time, and (ii) banks excess green and low-cost ener...
In this paper we simulate the performance of a load balancing scheme. In particular, we study the application of the Extrapolated Diffusion(EDF) method for the efficient parallelization of a simple ’atmospheric’ model, which involves the numerical solution of the steady state Navier-Stokes(NS) equations in the horizontal plane and random load values, corresponding to the ”physics” computations,...
Many time series exhibit seasonal variations related to the daily, weekly or annual activity. In this paper a new immune inspired univariate method for forecasting time series with multiple seasonal periods is proposed. This method is based on the patterns of time series seasonal sequences: input ones representing sequences preceding the forecast and forecast ones representing the forecasted se...
PURPOSE There is a discussion in literature concerning mechanical properties and modelling of surgical meshes. An important feature of elastic modulus dependency on load history is taken into account in this paper, as implants are subjected to variable loading during human activity. The example of DynaMesh®-IPOM surgical implant is studied. METHODS The analysis is based on failure tension tes...
This paper describes a cyclic time domain successive approximation (CTDSA) architecture that can be used as an interpolator in a time-to-digital converter (TDC). The new architecture of the CTDSA achieves adjustable sub-ps-level resolution with high linearity in ns-level dynamic range. The propagation delay adjustment is implemented by digitally controlling both the unit load capacitors and the...
In this article we discuss how dispersionbased measurements are affected by multiple-access networks, such as IEEE 802.11-based ad-hoc networks. We study four topics: variable link capacity, movement of wireless nodes, loss rate and timing issues. We show by simulations that the link capacity in a wireless topology is changing due to cross traffic generated from nodes using the same radio frequ...
The motion aftereffect (MAE) describes an illusory motion in the opposite direction after the sudden halt of a prolonged moving visual stimulus. Behaviorally, this illusion was mostly analyzed in humans and other mammals. Up to now, birds were never tested. Since a new neural mechanism for the MAE was recently discovered in the pigeons' midbrain, the aim of this study was to investigate if pige...
