VEGF inhibition can promote renal vascular and parenchymal injury, causing proteinuria, hypertension and thrombotic microangiopathy. The mechanisms underlying these side effects are unclear. We investigated the renal effects of the administration, during 45 days, of sunitinib (Su), a VEGF receptor inhibitor, to rats with 5/6 renal ablation (Nx). Adult male Munich-Wistar rats were distributed am...
This paper investigates optimal constellation labeling in the context of the edge profile. A constellation’s edge profile lists the minimum-distance edge for each binary symbol error. The paper introduces the symmetric-ultracomposite (SU) labeling structure and shows that this structure provides undominated edge profiles for 2 -PSK, 2 -PAM, and 2 -point square QAM. The SU structure is a general...
BACKGROUND Triglycerides and their lipoprotein transport molecules are risk factors for heart disease. Observational studies have associated elevated levels of serum urate (SU) with triglycerides and risk of heart disease. However, owing to unmeasured confounding, observational studies do not provide insight into the causal relationship between SU and triglyceride. The aim of this study was to ...
During development, the Notch receptor regulates many cell fate decisions by a signaling pathway that has been conserved during evolution. One positive regulator of Notch is Deltex, a cytoplasmic, zinc finger domain protein, which binds to the intracellular domain of Notch. Phenotypes resulting from mutations in deltex resemble loss-of-function Notch phenotypes and are suppressed by the mutatio...
Quarks come in three colors and have electric charges in multiples of one-third. There are also three families of quarks and leptons. Whereas the first two properties can be understood in terms of unification symmetries such as SU(5), SO(10), or E6, why there should only be three families remains a mystery. I propose how all three properties involving the number three are connected in a fivefol...
In this proceedings, we summarize our work on the determination of the topological susceptibility and zero mode size distribution of SU(2) and SU(3) gauge fields using the overlap formalism. Most of this work has appeared in print [1]. We will focus here on new results which are extensions of the published work, namely the topological susceptibility for SU(2) pure gauge theory, the zero mode si...
We study the dynamical symmetry breaking in the gauge-Higgs unification of the 5D N = 1 SUSY theory, compactified on an orbifold, S/Z2. This theory identifies Wilson line degrees of freedoms as “Higgs doublets”. We consider SU(3)c × SU(3)W and SU(6) models, in which the gauge symmetries are reduced to SU(3)c×SU(2)L×U(1)Y and SU(3)c×SU(2)L×U(1)Y ×U(1), respectively, through the orbifolding bound...
Vortices carrying truly non-Abelian flux moduli, which do not dynamically reduce to Abelian vortices, are found in the context of softly-broken N = 2 supersymmetric chromodynamics (SQCD). By tuning the bare quark masses appropriately we identify the vacuum in which the underlying SU(N) gauge group is partially broken to SU(n)×SU(r)×U(1)/ZK , where K is the least common multiple of (n, r), and w...
We consider the quantum mechanics of a particle on a noncommutative two-sphere with the coordinates obeying an SU(2)-algebra. The momentum operator can be constructed in terms of an SU(2) × SU(2)-extension and the Heisenberg algebra recovered in the smooth manifold limit. Similar considerations apply to the more general SU(n) case.
We show that any solution of the SU(2) Skyrme model can be used to give a topologically trivial solution of the SU(4) one. In addition, we extend the method introduced in [1] and use harmonic maps from S to CP (N−1) to construct low energy configurations of the SU(N) Skyrme models. We show that one of such maps gives an exact, topologically trivial, solution of the SU(3) model. We study various...
