The scattering of guided waves through a complex structure is great importance in predicting vibration energy transmission and reflection across structures. Multi-scale models based on generalized continuum theory have been developed recently to investigate the behavior media frame mechanics. In this study, second strain gradient are employed together with matrix method study wave non-classical...

We experimentally measure the effects of fluid inertia on the diffusion of a Brownian particle at very long time scales. In previous experiments, the use of standard optical tweezers introduced a cutoff in the free diffusion of the particle, which limited the measurement of these effects to times comparable with the relaxation time of the fluid inertia, i.e., a few milliseconds. Here, by using ...

Abstract In this work, the state -space nonlocal strain gradient theory is used for vibration analysis of magneto thermo piezoelectric functionally graded material (FGM) nanobeam. An FGM constituent properties stated by using power law relations. The refined higher order beam and Hamilton’s principle have been to obtain motion equations. Besides, governing equations nanobeam are extracted devel...

Building on a formal theory of the structural aspects of organizational change initiated in Hannan, Pólos, and Carroll (2002a, 2002b), this paper focuses on structural inertia. We define inertia as a persistent organizational resistance to changing architectural features. We examine the evolutionary consequences of architectural inertia. The main theorem holds that selection favors architectura...

In X-ray interference fringes accompanied by mirage diffraction, variations have been observed in the spacing and position of the fringes from a plane-parallel Si single crystal fixed at one end as a function of distance from the incident plane of the X-rays to the free crystal end. The variations can be explained by distortion of the sample crystal due to gravity. From the variations and posit...

We employ hydrodynamic equations to follow the clustering instability of a freely cooling dilute gas of inelastically colliding spheres into a well-developed nonlinear regime. We simplify the problem by dealing with a one-dimensional coarse-grained flow. We observe that at a late stage of the instability the shear stress becomes negligibly small, and the gas flows solely by inertia. As a result...

This paper purposed a new generalized predictive control based on state feedback theory for the large inertia and large delay characteristics of the discrete reheat steam temperature plant. The idea is to compensate the large inertia and delay characteristics of the plant by the state feedback theory and the generalized plant by predictive control. The simulation results show that that the new ...

We provide a simple theory of in‡ation inertia in a staggered price setting framework a la Calvo (1983). Contrary to Calvo’s formulation, the frequency of price changes is allowed to vary according to an evolutionary criterion. Inertia is the direct result of gradual adjustment in this frequency following a permanent change in the rate of money growth.
