In this paper we consider a plate equation with internal feedback and viscoelastic damping localized on a part of the boundary. Without imposing restrictive assumptions on the time-dependent frictional damping, we establish an explicit and general decay rate result that allows a wider class of relaxation functions and generalizes previous results existing in the literature.

Due to the nonvanishing average photon population of the squeezed vacuum state, finite corrections to the scattering matrix are obtained. The lowest order contribution to the electron mass shift for a one mode squeezed vacuum state is given by δm(Ω, s)/m = α(2/π)(Ω/m) sinh(s), where Ω and s stand for the mode frequency and the squeeze parameter and α for the fine structure constant, respectivel...

We report on the first long-term application of squeezed vacuum states of light to improve the shot-noise-limited sensitivity of a gravitational-wave observatory. In particular, squeezed vacuum was applied to the German-British detector GEO 600 during a period of three months from June to August 2011, when GEO 600 was performing an observational run together with the French-Italian Virgo detect...

Currently, the German/British gravitational wave detector GEO 600 is being upgraded in course of the GEO-HF program. One part of this upgrade consists of the integration of a squeezed light laser to nonclassically improve the detection sensitivity at frequencies where the instrument is limited by shot noise. This has been achieved recently [1]. The permanent employment of squeezed light in grav...

We study experimentally the application of a class of entangled states, squeezed spin states, to the improvement of atomic-clock precision. In the presence of anisotropic noise, the entanglement lifetime is strongly dependent on squeezing orientation. We measure the Allan deviation spectrum of a clock operated with a phase-squeezed input state. For averaging times up to 50 s the squeezed clock ...

We present a field-theoretical description of the squeezed states of the electromagnetic field. A definition of the squeezed state is introduced that is a natural generalization of the definition for one or two modes. We show that the squeezing produced by the medium with spaceand time-dependent material coefficients e and is directly related to the photon-pair production. In Appendix A we desc...

We describe recent experiments on generation and applications of amplitude-squeezed states of light from a semiconductor diode laser. Amplitude-squeezed light with intensity noise 2 dB below the standard shot- noise limit was observed from a diode laser with a weak optical feedback from an external grating. Applications of this amplitude-squeezed light as a local oscillator in heterodyne detect...

A formalism for the construction of some classes of Gazeau−Klauder squeezed states, corresponding to arbitrary solvable quantum systems with a known discrete spectrum, are introduced. As some physical applications, the proposed structure is applied to a few known quantum systems and then statistical properties as well as squeezing of the obtained squeezed states are studied. Finally, numerical ...

The paper expands the work by Kinnear and Weston[1] on squeeze film bearing design to the general case and compares the revised methodology with classical bearing design[2,3,4] and hybrid bearing design[5]. The analysis, which employs a partial differentiation of the Poisseuille and Hagen-Poiseuille bearing flow equations, enables a mathematical model for the bearing squeeze film to be develope...

The surface plasmon wave is a surface wave confined at the interface between a dielectric and a metal. The excitation of the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) on a gold thin film is discussed within the Kretschmann configuration, where the coupling with the excitation light is achieved by means of a prism in total reflection. The electromagnetic principles are detailed and a simple experimental s...
