Introduction: Beckers’s nevus is a cutaneous hamartoma which usually appears as a circumscribed hyperpigmentation with hypertrichosis. It usually presents unilaterally and the usual site is shoulder and scapula. It is rarely congenital and it is usually noticed first during adolescence. Case Report: Herein, we report a congenital bilateral large Becker’s nevus with positive familial history ...
BACKGROUND Patients diagnosed with primary cutaneous melanoma have a greater lifetime risk of developing further melanomas. Most of these melanomas appear to arise de novo, but a proportion of them develop in pre-existing melanocytic nevi. OBJECTIVE To determine risk factors associated with the development of a second cutaneous melanoma arising on a nevus in patients diagnosed with cutaneous ...
Neuroepithelial cell proliferation must be carefully balanced with the transition to neuroblast (neural stem cell) to control neurogenesis. Here, we show that loss of the Drosophila microRNA mir-8 (the homolog of vertebrate miR-200 family) results in both excess proliferation and ectopic neuroblast transition. Unexpectedly, mir-8 is expressed in a subpopulation of optic-lobe-associated cortex g...
Becker nevus syndrome is a phenotype characterized by the fundamental presence of Becker's nevus with ipsilateral hypoplasia of the breast or other skin, skeletal and/or muscular disorders. This syndrome generally originates at birth, intensifies significantly in adolescence and is one of the syndromes that constitute epidermal nevus syndrome. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first cas...
We present the case of a 2-year-old boy with multiple Spitz nevi clustered on a hyperpigmented macule that obeyed a quadrant distribution. Multiple Spitz nevi are rare and can be disseminated or clustered. A third of the cases of agminated lesions appear on hyperpigmented macules.
Although conflicting with the concept of nevi being hamartomas, to date, Spitz and Reed nevi have been regarded as acquired melanocytic nevi, whereas many other types have already been accepted as being congenital. Here, the reader will find a survey on clinical, dermatoscopic and histopathologic clues suggesting a congenital origin of authentic Spitz nevi. Relevant differences in respect to Re...
We present a case of hair follicle nevus, a rare hamartoma composed of vellus hair follicles. Hair follicle nevus should be differentiated from accessory auricle, trichofolliculoma and hair nevus.
INTRODUCTION Preoperative prognostic predictors are important for surgeons and parents to estimate the survival of patients with esophageal atresia (EA). The aim of this study was to update the clinical outcomes of EA treatment by comparing between the Waterston and the Spitz classification. MATERIALS AND METHODS Medical records of the patients with EA treated at Queen Sirikit National Instit...
