BACKGROUND Shc and Grb2 form a complex in cells in response to growth factor stimulation and link tyrosine kinases to Ras during the resulting signaling process. Shc and Grb2 each contain domains that mediate interactions with other unidentified intracellular proteins. For example, the Shc PTB domain binds to 130 kDa and 145 kDa tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins in response to stimulation of cel...

Pseudomonas putida CA-3 accumulates polyphosphate (polyP) and medium-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoate (mclPHA) concurrently under nitrogen limitation. Five other mclPHA-accumulating Pseudomonas strains are capable of simultaneous polyP and mclPHA biosynthesis. It appears that polyP is not the rate-limiting step for mclPHA accumulation in these Pseudomonas strains.

Laboratory-scale sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) as models for activated sludge processes were used to study enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) from wastewater. Enrichment for polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAOs) was achieved essentially by increasing the phosphorus concentration in the influent to the SBRs. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using domain-, division-, ...

It was the aim of this study to develop a zeta potential changing drug delivery system by decorating lipid-based nanocarriers with polycationic cell penetrating peptide (CPP) and subsequently masking these cationic substructures polyphosphates. In order anchor CPP poly-l-lysine (PLL) on surface oily droplets an o/w nanoemulsion, stearic acid covalently attached peptide. The resulting CPP-decora...

OBJECTIVE Diadenosine polyphosphates have been demonstrated to be involved in the control of vascular tone as well as the growth of vascular smooth muscle cells and hence, possibly, in atherogenesis. In this study we investigated the question of whether diadenosine polyphosphates are present in human plasma and whether a potential source can be identified that may release diadenosine polyphosph...
