Thermal nonlinearity is known to cause bistability in Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) resonators and to destabilize the red slope of the Lorentzian resonant curve. We demonstrate an optical technique that allows compensation of the thermal effect and forces the resonances to appear linear with both red and blue slopes stable.
The concept of Matthew effects in reading development refers to a longitudinally widening gap between high achievers and low achievers. Various statistical approaches have been proposed to examine this idea. However, little attention has been paid to psychometric issues of scaling. Specifically, interval-level data are required to compare performance differences across performance ranges, but o...
We show that the slopes of the U5 operator acting on slopes of 5adic overconvergent modular forms of weight k with primitive Dirichlet character χ of conductor 25 are given by either
Perceptual fading of texture targets on similarly textured backgrounds was studied in relation to stimulus salience using texture patterns defined by orientation contrast, shape contrast, and order contrast. In two independent experiments, perceptual salience of the targets was determined. In the first, the textural contrast of the stimuli was varied and their salience quantified using magnitud...
This paper presents a numerical model based on one-dimensional Beji and Nadaoka's Extended Boussinesq equations for simulation of periodic wave shoaling and its decomposition over morphological beaches. A unique Galerkin finite element and Adams-Bashforth-Moulton predictor-corrector methods are employed for spatial and temporal discretization, respectively. For direct application of linear fini...
The present paper discusses the analysis of solution of groundwater flow in inclined porous media. The problem related to groundwater flow in inclined aquifers is usually common in geotechnical and hydrogeology engineering activities. The governing partial differential equation of one-dimensional groundwater recharge problem has been formed by Dupuit's assumption. Three cases have been discusse...
INTRODUCTION Both sorted stone-bordered polygons and nonsorted stone circles were found on a gently sloping, 3000-m-high tableland adjacent to a glaciated valley in the Kharkhiraa Mountains. Neither the formation process nor the physical relationship between the two observed types of patterned ground is clearly understood (Kessler and Werner, 2003). Here I attempt to relate field observations t...
Many important research hypotheses concern conditional relations in which the effect of one predictor varies with the value of another. Such relations are commonly evaluated as multiplicative interactions and can be tested in both fixed- and random-effects regression. Often, these interactive effects must be further probed to fully explicate the nature of the conditional relation. The most comm...
