Abstract: The large group delay of the high order FIR filters is unacceptable in some applications. Therefore, recently, how to reduce the group delay of FIR filters has been studied intensively. To reduce the ringing in the time domain and to maximize the stopband attenuation, it is useful to design FIR filters with maximally flat characteristics in the passband and transmission zeros in the s...

This paper presents a simple and noniterative procedure for the computation of the exact value of the infimum in the standard Roo.optimal control with output feedback. The problem formulation is general and does not place any restrictions on the direct feedthrough terms between the control input and the controlled output variables, and between the disturbance input and the measurement output va...

In the beginning of the eighties, M. Shub and S. Smale developed a quantitative analysis of Newton’s method for multivariate analytic maps. In particular, their α-theory gives an effective criterion that ensures safe convergence to a simple isolated zero. This criterion requires only information concerning the map at the initial point of the iteration. Generalizing this theory to multiple zeros...

A 2 2 clocked buuered switch is a device used in data-processing networks for routing messages from one node to another. The message handling process of this switch can be modelled as a two-server, time slotted, queueing process with state space the number of messages (xn; yn) present at the servers at the end of a time slot. The (xn; yn)-process is a two-dimensional nearest-neighbour random wa...

This survey paper is devoted to inequalities for zeros of algebraic polynomials. We consider the various bounds for the moduli of the zeros, some related inequalities, as well as the location of the zeros of a polynomial, with a special emphasis on the zeros in a strip in the complex plane.

We discuss asymptotics of the zeros of orthogonal polynomials on the real line and on the unit circle when the recursion coefficients are periodic. The zeros on or near the absolutely continuous spectrum have a clock structure with spacings inverse to the density of zeros. Zeros away from the a.c. spectrum have limit points mod p and only finitely many of them.

The hierarchical structure in the quark masses and mixings allows its ten physical parameters to be most conveniently encoded in mass matrices of the upper triangular form. We classify these matrices in the hierarchical, minimal parameter basis where the mismatch between the weak and mass eigenstates involves only small mixing angles. Ten such pairs are obtained for the up and down quarks. This...

Although correspondence between the poles of a continuous-time and sampled-data system with a piecewise constant input is simple and desirable from the stability viewpoint, the relationship between zeros is intricate. Inversion of a sampled-data system is mostly unstable irrespective of the stability of the continuous-time counterpart. This makes it difficult to apply inversionbased control tec...

For a given real entire function φ with finitely many nonreal zeros, we establish a connection between the number of real zeros of the functions Q = (φ/φ) and Q1 = (φ /φ). This connection leads to a proof of the Hawaii conjecture [T.Craven, G.Csordas, and W. Smith, The zeros of derivatives of entire functions and the Pólya-Wiman conjecture, Ann. of Math. (2) 125 (1987), 405–431] stating that th...

We study the Yang-Lee zeros of a random matrix partition function with the global symmetries of the QCD partition function. We consider both zeros in the complex chemical potential plane and in the complex mass plane. In both cases we find that the zeros are located on a curve. In the thermodynamic limit, the zeros appear to merge to form a cut. The shape of this limiting curve can be obtained ...
