Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are extensively used in various industries due to their unique physico-chemical and antimicrobial properties. Many natural biomolecules in plants (inactivated plant tissue, plant extracts and living plant) such as proteins/enzymes, amino acids, polysaccharides, alkaloids, alcoholic compounds, and vitamins could be involved in bioreduction, formation and stabilizatio...
Some microorganisms perform anaerobic mineral respiration by reducing metal ions to metal nanoparticles, using peptide aggregates as medium for electron transfer (ET). Such a reaction type is investigated here with model peptides and silver as the metal. Surprisingly, Ag(+) ions bound by peptides with histidine as the Ag(+)-binding amino acid and tyrosine as photoinducible electron donor cannot...
Biofabrication of metallic nanoparticles have attracted the researchers of various disciplines for the past few decades, due to their wide range of applications in the various fields of electronics, textiles industries, nano medicine, biopharmacy and biotechnology. Keeping in view the above important applications, we have successfully biosynthesized the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using leaf e...
The dataset depicted in this article related to our earlier article entitled "Phytofabrication and encapsulated of silver nanoparticles from Gloriosa Superba" (Saradha Devi et al., 2017) [1], which reports the characteristic features (UV Visible spectra, FTIR, SEM, TEM, DLS, Zeta potential and XRD analysis) of the Gloriosa superba biosynthesised silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). In this context, th...
We demonstrate a facile approach for converting AgCl to functional silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) via photoreduction in the presence of DNA. The resulting AgNPs are biofunctionalized, and exhibit photostable luminescence and DNA-specific Raman signatures, showing high potential for use in DNA-directed recognition and advanced bioimaging.
Two advances in the development of a one-pot method to prepare silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using the Tollens' reagent are described. First, a template-directed process of AgNP synthesis using resorcinol triazole ligands bearing two pendent galactose sugars is shown. Second, the conversion of these AgNPs into SERS nanotags is demonstrated using malachite green isothiocyanate as the Raman report...
Green synthesis of nanoparticles using seaweeds are fascinating high research attention nowadays and also gaining center of attention in biomedical applications. In this work, we have synthesized biocompatible and functionalized silver nanoparticles using an aqueous extract of seaweed Enteromorpha compressa as a reducing as well as stabilizing agent and their efficient antimicrobial and antican...
The antibacterial effect of silver has been used in a variety of commercially available products and medical devices for many years, either in its metallic or salt form. Nowadays, due to the knowledge acquired within the last decade in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, the use of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for medical and sanitary purposes has been thoroughly studied and dramatical...
Recently, it has been shown that silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) provide a unique approach to the treatment of tumors, especially those of neuroepithelial origin. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of AgNPs on proliferation and activation of the intrinsic apoptotic pathway of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) cells cultured in an in ovo model. Human GBM cells, line U-87, were place...
The in situ formation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) aided by chondroitin sulfate and the preparation of a hierarchically structured silver-polymer nanocomposite with antimicrobial activity is shown. Green synthesis of AgNPs is carried out by thermal treatment (80 and 90 °C) or UV irradiation of a chondroitin sulfate solution containing AgNO₃ without using any further reducing agents or stabil...
