After the Deepwater Horizon (DWH) oil spill began in April 2010, studies were initiated on northern Gulf of Mexico common bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in Mississippi Sound (MSS) to determine density, abundance, and survival, during and after the oil spill, and to compare these results to previous research in this region. Seasonal boat-based photo-identification surveys (2010-2012) w...

The precise time available from the atomic clocks orbiting the earth in GPS satellites is used in many systems where time synchronization is important. The satellite clocks are monitored and adjusted by ground based control telemetry to within one microsecond of Universal Time. A number of commercial GPS receivers have the ability to provide a time synchronised output, typically one pulse per s...

The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations and the World Organization for Animal Health have called for a better understanding of the role that migrating birds may play in spreading H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). Bird banding, traditionally used in studies of migration, is limited by low recapture rates. Telemetry can only be applied to larger species and a lim...

The planetary boundary layer is the medium of energy, moisture, momentum and pollutant exchange between the surface and the atmosphere. In this paper, a method to derive the boundary layer mixing height (MH) was introduced and applied over the Heihe river basin. Atmospheric profiles from the MODerate Resolution Imaging Sepctroradiometer (MODIS) instrument onboard the NASA-Aqua satellite were us...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the appropriateness and intermediate outcomes of telemetry admissions. METHODS We abstracted demographic and clinical data from records of all new telemetry admissions during a 2-month period. To determine appropriateness, 2 authors classified patients using the American College of Cardiology (ACC) guidelines and our telemetry policy. Other utilization and outcome measur...

Integrity is one of the key indicators used to characterize performance global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) and closely related user safety. In order realize real-time integrity monitoring, BeiDou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) has realized “satellite autonomous monitoring” (SAIM) function in its satellites for first time. BDS-3 SAIM monitoring functions signal power, pseudo...

This paper describes results of UHF telemetry R&D tests conducted at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), New Mexico. UHF telemetry problems, such as multipath and target scintillation, are discussed. Several recommendations which may improve the reliability of telemetry data transmission at UHF frequencies are made based on experience and data gained from many UHF telemetry tracking operations.

NASA is interested in using commercial satellites to provide broadband communications support for the International Space Station and other space missions. We describe a large-scale simulation model that we plan to use for detailed performance studies of critical parameters such as QoS guarantees for specific services, traffic routing schemes, transport protocol support, dynamic bandwidth alloc...
