Recently, we found that several commercial pet vaccines were contaminated with an infectious endogenous retrovirus, RD-114-related virus. Here, we determined the entire nucleotide sequences of RD-114-related viruses isolated from CRFK cells and a vaccine manufactured using CRFK cells. These RD-114-related viruses were nearly identical to the authentic RD-114 virus.

We model the spontaneous assembly of a capsid (a virus' closed outer shell) from many copies of identical units, using entirely irreversible steps and only information local to the growing edge. Our model is formulated in terms of (i) an elastic Hamiltonian with stretching and bending stiffness and a spontaneous curvature, and (ii) a set of rate constants for the addition of new units or bonds....

The cross-peaks of 1H-NOESY spectra at different time delays are compared to a mode-coupling diffusion (MCD) calculation, including the evaluation of the full 1H relaxation matrix, in the case of a 23 nucleotide fragment of the stem-loop SL1 domain of HIV-1Lai genomic RNA mutated in a single position. The MCD theory gives significant agreement with 1H relaxation experiments enabling a thorough ...

Human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV) types 1 and 2 belong to the Oncorna group of retroviridae, a large family of viruses, grouped initially by pathogenic features, but later revised on the basis of genome structure and nucleotide sequence. HTLV-I was the first discovered human retrovirus to be associated with a malignancy in 1980. The malignancy, first described by Uchiyama and co-worker...

Background and purpose: HTL-Ï/ÏÏ viruses of the Retroviridae family are known to be the causes of various diseases. They are transmitted by blood transfusion, sexual contact and breast milk. Âs of contaminated mothers. These viral infections are endemic in certain regions, Ëpidemiological studies appear to be necessary in the country. Blood donors from different transfusion Çenters were inves...

Cytotoxic CD8+ T Lymphocytes (CTL) efficiently control acute virus infections but can become exhausted when a chronic infection develops. Signaling of the inhibitory receptor PD-1 is an important mechanism for the development of virus-specific CD8+ T cell dysfunction. However, it has recently been shown that during the initial phase of infection virus-specific CD8+ T cells express high levels o...

In the past, it has been hard to introduce genes into primary myoblasts without selection, as they have been very difficult to transfect or infect. We describe conditions under which mouse primary skeletal muscle myoblasts can be infected with retroviral vectors at high efficiency. Infection can be greatly increased by minimizing the time during which cells are exposed to virus, adding a minima...

Tetherin/BST-2 is a host restriction factor that could directly inhibit retroviral particle release by tethering nascent virions to the plasma membrane. However, the immunological impact of Tetherin during retrovirus infection remains unknown. We now show that Tetherin influences antiretroviral cell-mediated immune responses. In contrast to the direct antiviral effects of Tetherin, which are de...

A late-passage derivative of SC-1 cells with stable relative resistance to N- and B-tropic viruses but with retained sensitivity to NB-tropic viruses has been identified. Dual resistance was seen with the XC plaque assay, as well as reverse transcriptase assay and radioimmunoassay for viral p30. Evidence was found for resistance in clonal derivatives. These findings suggest a possible instabili...
