The present trial was conducted to investigate the effect of inclusion dried periphyton in Nile tilapia diets on growth, digestive enzymes activity, haematological, oxidative stress and intestinal morphometric parameters. Five isoproteic (32%), isolipidic (5%) experimental were formulated, comprise graded levels (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5 10 g kg−1 diet). At end feeding trial, highest (P < 0.05) performan...

This paper describes the whole-genome sequences for three Streptococcus agalactiae serotype Ia isolates. The isolates were recovered from the brains of clinically sick tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, that were suffering from streptococcosis. One isolate was from tilapia in the United States and the other two from fish in China.

Seventeen-day-old Nile tilapia fry were fed a standard diet (C) or diets containing 50-700 mg kg(-1) Quillaja saponin (QS) extract (groups S50, S150, S300, S500 and S700). After the first 8 weeks, 30 randomly selected tilapia from each of the treatments were placed in separate aquaria and fed the standard diet without saponins from then on (these were designated S50/C, S150/C, S300/C, S500/C an...

The general objective of our work was to determine the acute toxicity and bioaccumulation of arsenic (As) in tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) from the blackfoot disease (BFD) area in Taiwan. The average concentration of As in pond water ranged from 17.8 to 49 microg L(-1). Acute toxicity tests showed that the As concentration that caused toxicity to tilapia ranged from 69 060 microg As L(-1), ...

rodlet cells are frequently found in teleost fishes and although their role in organisms is not completely understood. the occurrence of these cells are related to stress and may undergo changes in contaminated environments, thereby allowing their use as biomarkers. this hypothesis is tested in the present study. thirty specimens of oreochromis niloticus were divided into three groups, two grou...

BACKGROUND Preservative effect of melanin-free extract of Sepia esculenta ink (MFESI) on Sparus latus fillet has been verified in our previous work. This study aims to further approach the mechanism of MFESI for extending the shelf-life of fish fillet during cold storage. Tilapia fillets were treated with different dosage of MFESI (0, 15, 25 and 35 mg/ml) and packed with preservative film for s...
