Radish (Raphanus sativus L. cv. Cherriette), lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. cv. Waldmann's Green), and spinach (Spinacea oleracea L. cv. Nordic IV) plants were grown under 660-nm red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and were compared at equal photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) with either plants grown under cool-white fluorescent lamps (CWF) or red LEDs supplemented with 10% (30 micromoles m-2 s-1) blue ...

Cryptochromes are blue-light absorbing flavoproteins with many important signaling roles in plants, including in de-etiolation, development, and stress response. They interact with downstream signaling partners such as transcription factors and components of the proteasome, and thereby alter regulation of nuclear gene expression in a light dependent manner. In a prior study, it has also been sh...

PURPOSE To determine whether aging is accompanied by changes in aerobic photoreactivity of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) melanosomes isolated from human donors of different ages, and to compare the photoreactivity of aged melanosomes with that of RPE lipofuscin. METHODS Human RPE pigment granules were isolated from RPE cells pooled into groups according to the age of the donors. Photoreact...

Introduction: Morphological differentiation between reactive mesothelial proliferation and metastatic carcinoma cells may be extremely difficult in conventional centrifuge deposit smears stained with papanicolaou and romanowsky dyes. In the present study immunocytochemistry and morphometric analysis were performed on cytospin preparation of effusion categorized as atypical/suspicious on toluidi...

Reactive blue dye was evaluated as a corrosion inhibitor for zinc in 0.5N HCl by weight loss, gasometric and thermometric methods. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increase in the inhibitor concentration. The adsorption of the inhibitor molecules on the zinc metal surface obeyed Temkin adsorption isotherm.

Histopathologic Description: Cervical spinal cord: Microscopically, the lesions are characterized by a loss of myelin visible on HE-stained sections where the normally intense eosinophilia of the white matter is lost and the neuropil to has a fine fibrillar meshwork pattern dotted with numerous oligodendrocyte nuclei. With the Luxol fast blue stain, the deep blue color of the white matter is re...

Oxidases are able to degrade organic pollutants; however, high costs associated with biocatalysts production still hinder their use in environmental biocatalysis. Our study compared the action of a commercial laccase from Aspergillus oryzae and a rich extract from Pleurotus ostreatus cultivation residues in decolourisation of reactive dyes: Drimaren Blue X-3LR (DMBLR), Drimaren Blue X-BLN (DMBB...

background and objectives: synthetic dyes are recalcitrant to degradation and toxic to different organisms. decolorization of textile wastewaters is one of the major concerns since last decades. physical-chemical treatments are very expensive and frequently producing large amounts of toxic wastes. biological treatments can be more convenient. in the present study, an attempt has been made for d...

A screening using several laccase mediators (2,2-azinobis(3ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS), 1-hydroxybenzotriazole (HBT), Nhydroxyacetanilide (NHA), 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yloxy (TEMPO) and violuric acid (VA)) was performed on the degradation of three reactive textile dyes: Reactive Black 5 (RB5), Reactive Blue 114 (RB114) and Reactive Yellow 15 (RY15). ABTS was the most effe...
