A retrospective study of 48 patients was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of plasma exchange in children with idiopathic rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (IRPGN), and renal or non-renal vasculitis. All patients were followed up at a single centre over a 15 year period. Treatment consisted of corticosteroids and/or cytotoxic agents. Plasma exchange was used in all patients because of sev...

Iyoda et al. have provided strong experimental evidence for beneficial effects of PDGF signalling inhibition in two seemingly unrelated glomerular diseases: rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN) in the present study and focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) in a previous study. Novel insights into the pathogenesis of these two diseases have unravelled a common cellular mechanism...

OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to evaluate treatment retention, efficacy, and preference ratings among opioid-dependent patients transitioning between a buprenorphine/naloxone rapidly dissolving sublingual tablet formulation (BNX-RDT) and BNX film. METHODS After a 2-day, blinded, fixed-dose induction with BNX-RDT (5.7/1.4 mg and 5.7/1.4 or 11.4/2.8 mg, respectively) or buprenorphine (8 m...

This paper proposes a sampling based planning algorithm to control autonomous vehicles. We propose an improved Rapidly-exploring Random Tree which includes the definition of Knearest points and propose a two-stage sampling strategy to adjust RRT in other to perform maneuver while avoiding collision. The simulation results show the success of the algorithm.

GN in the adolescent requires prompt diagnosis. When even mild degrees of renal insufficiency are documented, immediate referral to a nephrologist is necessary to ensure that serious conditions, such as RPGN, are correctly diagnosed and aggressively managed. In an adolescent with macroscopic hematuria, the demonstration of dysmorphic RBCs, RBC casts, and proteinuria indicates that the bleeding ...

Rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN) results from severe crescentic damage to glomeruli and leads to irreversible kidney failure if not diagnosed and managed in a timely fashion. Traditional treatment has relied on glucocorticoids and cyclophosphamide, with additional plasmapheresis for certain conditions. Here we describe updates in the management of RPGN, according to the underlying ...

This paper summarizes our recent development of algorithms that construct feasible trajectories for problems that involve both differential constraints (typically in the form of an underactuated nonlinear system), and global constraints (typically arising from robot collisions). Dynamic programming approaches are described that produce approximately-optimal solutions for low-dimensional problem...

The proportion of patients with vasculitis and rapidly progressive nephritis aged 70 years or over has risen from about 10% in the 1980s to over 30% in series reported in the 1990s. This study was undertaken to examine the presentation and outcome of such older patients. Seventeen of 56 patients (30%) who presented at two renal units were aged 70 years or over. Mean creatinine level at presenta...

Randomized, sampling-based planning has a long history of success, and although the benefits associated with this use of randomization are widely-recognized, its costs are not well-understood. We examine a variety of problem instances solved with the Rapidly-exploring Random Tree algorithm, demonstrating that heavy-tailed runtime distributions are both common and potentially exploitable. We sho...

Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is the most common cause of rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis worldwide, and the renal biopsy is the gold standard for establishing the diagnosis. Although the prognostic value of the renal biopsy in ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis is widely recognized, there is no consensus regarding its pathologic classification. We pre...
