UNLABELLED Previously not shown this study support that mfVEP is an indicator of optic nerve neuropathy in diabetic patients and there could be a correlation between the optic nerve dysfunction and diabetic poly neuropathy. The early optic nerve involvement might explain some of the visual complain in this group of diabetic patients. PURPOSE To investigate the function of the visual pathway m...

BACKGROUND Autoimmune optic neuropathy is optic neuropathy caused by an autoimmune mechanism. As treatment, steroid is usually used. If steroid is ineffective to improve visual function, other immunosuppressive agents are used as needed. Rituximab is one of molecular target agents and is now used as treatment for several types of autoimmune disorders. CASE REPORT A 77-year-old woman presented...

Neurology 2012;79:732–733 For 40 years, visual evoked cortical potentials (VEPs) have been used to aid in the diagnosis of demyelinating optic neuropathy.1 Early studies demonstrated an increased latency of the positive peak normally seen at about 100 msec—the P100—in patients with optic neuritis.1 Since the P100 often remains prolonged following recovery from the acute episode, the VEP is usef...

OBJECTIVES To determine whether early recognition and detection of thrombocytosis in patients with giant cell arteritis can help secure an earlier diagnosis, and whether it can help differentiate cases of arteritic optic neuropathy from other forms of optic neuropathy. METHODS Medical and ophthalmologic records from 1993 to 1998 of the authors' patients with biopsy-proven temporal arteritis v...

A patient undergoing chemotherapy for treatment of acute lymphocytic leukemia developed septicemia that was treated with linezolid for 16 days. The patient subsequently reported reduced vision in both eyes and was found to have bilateral optic neuropathy. After the discontinuation of linezolid treatment, both the optic neuropathy and visual impairment resolved without sequelae.

BACKGROUND Patients on linezolid-containing drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) regimen often develop adverse-events, particularly peripheral and optic neuropathy. Programmatic data and experiences of linezolid-associated optic neuropathy from high DR-TB burden settings are lacking. The study aimed to determine the frequency of and risk-factors associated with linezolid-associated optic neuropathy and do...
