We investigate the evolution of the interaction of the magnetoplasmon resonance with the harmonics of the cyclotron resonance as the confinement of an electron gas in a quantum wire increasingly deviates from the parabolic case. The occurrence of the Bernstein modes is observed in a time-dependent Hartree model of a two-dimensional electron gas in a single quantum wire.

Two crucial properties of QCD, confinement and chiral symmetry breaking, cannot be understood within the context of conventional Feynman perturbation theory. Non-perturbative phenomena enter the theory in a fundamental way at both the classical and quantum levels. Over the years a coherent qualitative picture of the interplay between chiral symmetry, quantum mechanical anomalies, and the lattic...

Graphene nanoribbons display an imperfectly understood transport gap. We measure transport through nanoribbon devices of several lengths. In long (>/=250 nm) nanoribbons we observe transport through multiple quantum dots in series, while shorter (</=60 nm) constrictions display behavior characteristic of single and double quantum dots. New measurements indicate that dot size may scale with cons...

In this paper the effects of transmittance, dispersion angle and diffusion length on the quantum efficiency of solar cells (QESC) have been simulated and investigated. Optical path technic is used for simulation. The results show that base thickness, diffusion length, dispersion angle, number of optical confinement path and transmission angles have an extremely effects on the QESC. Simulation r...

This work describes the optical and structure properties of nickel sulfide and cobalt sulfide nanoparticles in ZSM-5 zeolite. The samples were obtained by sulfidation of the Ni2+ and Co2+ ion-exchange ZSM-5 zeolites in a Na2S solution at room temperature. The optical properties of the samples were studied by UV-visible spectroscopy. Their crystalline structure and morphology were studied by X-r...

Much about the confinement and dynamical symmetry breaking in QCD might be learned from models with supersymmetry. In particular, models based on N = 2 supersymmetric theories with gauge groups SU(N), SO(N) and USp(2N) and with various number of flavors, give deep dynamical hints about these phenomena. For instance, the BPS non-abelian monopoles can become the dominant degrees of freedom in the...

Connection between the stability of quantum motion in random fields and quark confinement in QCD is investigated. The analogy between the fidelity and the Wilson loop is conjectured, and the fidelity decay rates for different types of quark motion are expressed in terms of the parameters which are commonly used in phenomenological and lattice QCD. Employing the Anderson impurity model, we study tunneling properties through an ideal quantum dot near the conductance minima. Considering the Coulomb blockade and the quantum confinement on an equal footing, we have obtained current contributions from various types of tunneling processes; inelastic cotunneling, elastic cotunneling, and resonant tunneling of thermally activated electrons. We ha...
