Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4Is) inhibit the inactivation of incretin hormones while also affecting the immune system, since CD26/DPP-4 is involved in immune regulation. The current study shows that the use of DPP-4Is as therapy for type 2 diabetes patients may induce joint symptoms with decrease in plasma SDF-1α level.
Dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DP-IV), a member of the prolyl oligopeptidase family of peptidases, is involved in the metabolic inactivation of a glucose-dependent insulinotropic hormone, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), and other incretin hormones. Here, we investigated the impact of DP-IV deficiency on body weight control and insulin sensitivity in mice. Whereas WT mice displayed accelerated weight...
The long term side effects of any newly introduced drug is a subject of intense research, and often raging controversies. One such example is the dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP4) inhibitor used for treating type 2 diabetes, which is inconclusively implicated in increased susceptibility to acute pancreatitis. Previously, based on a computational analysis of the spatial and electrostatic properties...

This article is a brief review of the current non-insulin agents for diabetes mellitus in the United States, namely, sulfonylureas, biguanides, thiazolidinediones, meglitinides, α-glucosidase inhibitors, glucacon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 inhibitors, amylin agonists, bromocriptine, and colesevelam.
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic derangement that results from defects in both insulin action and secretion. New thiazolidinedione insulin sensitizers have been recently launched. New approaches with mechanisms different from current therapies are being explored, including novel ligands of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor, glucagon receptor antagonists, dipeptidyl peptidase IV i...

An association between remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) syndrome and insulin or dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4) inhibitor therapy were previously reported. We encountered four cases of RS3PE syndrome with type 2 diabetes mellitus or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) without insulin or DPP4 inhibitor medication.
A novel plant enzyme with dual activity: an atypical Nudix hydrolase and a dipeptidyl peptidase III.
In a search for plant homologues of dipeptidyl peptidase III (DPP III) family, we found a predicted protein from the moss Physcomitrella patens (UniProt entry: A9TLP4), which shared 61% sequence identity with the Arabidopsis thaliana uncharacterized protein, designated Nudix hydrolase 3. Both proteins contained all conserved regions of the DPP III family, but instead of the characteristic hexap...
