The colon involved with the sigmoid volvulus is much thicker than the normal colon. It is easy to handle and holds sutures well. Patients who have sigmoid-colon volvulus do not have much faecal loading. Most of the distension is gaseous. In the hands of experienced surgeons primary anastomosis can be done after sigmoid colectomy with safety and excellent results.
Conventional management of acute left sided colonic obstruction employs some form of proximal colostomy. Intraoperative antegrade colonic irrigation relieves proxi-mal faecal loading and may permit safer primary re-section and anastomosis. The results of a pilot study are presented, and are shown to be favourable.
Acute fulminating amoebic colitis is a very uncommon complication of amoebiasis. Most patients die, with or without surgery. We report such a patient who survived after total colectomy. If an excision of diseased colon is done, an exteriorising procedure should be added and primary anastomosis avoided.
•Intraoperative injury of the obturator nerve is not an infrequent complication of gynecological surgeries.•This injury can occur in association with pelvic lymphadenectomy for uterine or cervical cancer.•This manuscript demonstrates an alternative technique for the obturator nerve repair, when primary end to end anastomosis is not possible.
Objective: To assess the outcome of end to side Ileo-Ascending Colic anastomosis in patients undergoing emergency and elective Ileo-Caecal resection non-malignant cases. Study Design: Cross Sectional Descriptive study. Setting: Department Surgery at Fauji Foundation Hospital Rawalpindi. Period: January, 2018 December, 2020. Abstract Background The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and clinical usefulness early oral feeding (EOF) after rectosigmoid resection with anastomosis for treatment primary ovarian cancer. Methods We performed a retrospective review all consecutive patients who had undergone ovarian, tubal, or peritoneal cancer between April 2012 March 2019 in single institution. Patient-related...
Interest in the surgical treatment of congenital atresia of the oesophagus was aroused in this country by the publication of Franklin's paper (1947) in which he reported two infants with oesophageal atresia and tracheo-oesophageal fistula successfully operated on by the extra-pleural approach. The fistula was closed and primary oesophageal anastomosis was performed. Franklin estimated the occur...
background: radiotherapy is one of the most important factors which results in negative effects on wound healing and increases anastomosis leakage. diverting loop ileostomy has been usually performed after colorectal anastomosis in cases of colorectal cancer with a history of neoadjuvant radiotherapy to decrease the chance of leakage. considering the side effects of diverting loop ileostomy, th...
OBJECTIVES The C-Port® Distal Anastomosis Systems (Cardica, Inc., Redwood City, CA, USA) demonstrated favourable results in feasibility trials. However, distal vein anastomoses created with the C-Port® or C-Port xA® system have never been compared with hand-sewn distal vein anastomoses. The objective of this study was to compare distal end-to-side anastomoses facilitated with the C-Port xA® Sys...
BACKGROUND Primary anastomosis is considered the standard strategy after right emergency colectomy. The present study aimed to evaluate alternative treatment strategies when primary anastomosis is not possible to prevent definitive ostomy. METHODS This retrospective study included all consecutive patients who underwent right emergency colectomy between July 2006 and June 2013. Demographics, s...
